Hi everyone, I just wanted to start this new topic for those like myself who are interested in applying to the MEPN program for the 2020 cohort.

They didn’t say specifically who, but after chatting with my cohort, every head of each specialty were amongst the group who conducted the interviews and were very well versed in each application. So, at least them, and Steven Johnson, who is in charge of the entire MEPN application process. That’s at least 8-10 individuals.

On a side note - I'm applying to the CNM/WHNP track, would you possibly know the numbers or how many are in that cohort?
For my cohort I believe there were 18-20 slots for the CNM specialty. It’s the second largest specialty, after FNP. Last year there were approximately 450 applicants, they took 137 for interviews, and accepted 80. They did go to the waitlist, but I don’t know how far they went down. I got the impression they didn’t get very far, but I know of 2 that did get accepted off of it.

Hi @GoLo99, thank you for all this information you are providing us! I'm in the Bay Area and applied to the AG CNS track and was wondering if we could touch base further? Don't want to clog up this thread with my very CNS-specific questions but allnurses has not yet approved me to send direct messages, which is why I'm posting here. Thank you!

Hello. There are 13 people on the PNP track in my cohort. And yes, its amongst the more competitive tracks. Keep in mind, its going to vary every cohort depending on which tracks people choose.

Hi, I'm just curious if you can tell me if, at any time, will this program allow you to get deeper or more experience into a particular subspecialty? For example, you're on the PNP track, but you're interested in Oncology. Would you be able to specialize in Oncology within the pediatric specialty and gain experience? Or do they just keep it very general.

Hi. I am a MEPN year PMHNP. My stats are right up front on last year's thread. I was accepted off the waitlist even though I was advised that was VERY not likely. We have a lot of PMHNPs this year. I think 8. We also have a very large MEPN class. I believe that the spots that are open in each specialty really have more to do with how many spots are free in the master's specialty. It would be nice to know all the numbers but, I have learned that my imagination of UCSF SON as a concrete institution was wrong. This place is alive and growing, changing, adapting. Whatever our class experience, there are over a hundred incredible nurses working to make it better for your class. So, if a master's specialty gains a new instructor or changes structure, etc, those numbers may change. Sorry, the answer is squishy.

ah!!! I'm so excited to see you pop up on this thread. I was a theatre major from undergrad and had a sales career the last 6 years. I really identified with your background and reasons for pursuing pmhnp at UCSF.
I guess the app is already finished so I have questions around your cohort of pmhnp. I've been volunteering at a psych crisis center for the homeless and want to continue working with that population. Does everyone in your cohort have more tangible work experience related to the pmhnp role? What can I do before the interview to demonstrate my knowledge and commitment to the population? Is the interview a group interview - if so, how did you stand out? If not, what was at the heart of their questions?
I appreciate any feedback you can give! I'm really set on UCSF because of the training and their VA residency post-graduation for PMHNP's. Regardless of getting into the school, that's where I want to go in my first year of practice.
