Hello. I recently attended the UCSF MEPN information session and I am really excited about the program. I am still finishing my pre-reqs and I want to be as ready as possible. Anyone else out there looking to apply for 2019?
Also,I would love any advice on rounding out my application for PMHNP.
Stats:
Undergrad theater major 3.3, Science and Pre-reqs (prob) 3.7
GRE Verb 48th %tile Quant 30th %tile Analytical 18th %tile
Work Exp: 10 useless years in the film business and then 3 years Admin at private practice and hospital
Volunteer: UCLA nursing, Suicide Crisis Hotline, Veteran's Administration Domicilliary
LOR: Prob only 4 really great ones. Is not sending 5 a bad idea?
I would love to hear from you!
Hey everyone! I've been trying to brainstorm and make some bullet points in order to start on my goal statement. I've been having some trouble and was wondering if anyone had advice or opinions? I believe they removed the personal history statement portion for this round of applications, so it'll just be the goal statement? I'm wondering if you guys are thinking about using your personal history/experience in your goal statements? I know that on the website, it says to focus on our knowledge of the nursing profession, our goals as a nurse, and how UCSF can help us with our goals... So I'm not 100% sure if I should just strictly focus on that (I wanted to add in some personal history/experience into it, but now I'm not so sure about it).
I am currently in the thick of our MEPN summer quarter, but I wanted to add some thoughts as I had similar questions as an applicant last summer. Your goal statement and personal history writing pieces will overlap at times and this is fine. You'll worry that you're repeating yourself, but the goal statement is really your time to highlight your path towards the nursing profession, i.e. why nursing, why advanced practice nursing and not registered nursing, why now, how can UCSF help you achieve your goals, etc. Your personal statement is more about those experiences that make your life's journey unique and that aren't necessarily about nursing, but that could very well be and that are of note. I spoke about my upbringing, my family, and challenges that I overcame and that I felt would compliment my career as a future nurse practitioner. You want to present the most concise and compelling narrative that you can in those two pages. Best of luck to all!

I actually was reviewing past threads and saw that you got in for WHNP! Congrats! I'm also going the same route, do you have any pointers? What were your stats (if you don't mind sharing!)?
Hello everyone!!
I'm also in the midst of working on this UCSF application and I'm so nervous!! I'm hoping to apply for the FNP track. I'm wondering what kind of work experience everyone else has. I'm worried that my work experience isn't specialized enough for the speciality I want to study. I'm sure everyone else feels like this, but the September due date already feels so close!

Hi CLJ925! I'm trying to get into the AGNP track (Environmental/Occ Health concentration). I have a few years in a corp setting as an environmental health and safety specialist (most of my focus is office ergonomics and injury prevention). I think even if what you're currently doing isn't directly related to the program you want to get into, I'm certain there are aspects of your current occupation that you can highlight. Another one is to add(and this is what I need a little more of ) community service, and if possible, for the population that you want to help as a future NP.
I'm still trying to work on my personal and goal statements, ugh I'm so nervous about these!
I get the feeling that they are looking for is evidence that you know what you're getting into beyond what you're ideas about it are. I think they are also looking for evidence that you are committed to the community you intend to serve. If that evidence isn't in your resume then talk about it in your essays. I find it helpful to research what ucsf has been doing through their own website, and seeing how that relates to your experience.

The financial part of the program stresses me out as well. I'm hoping I'll be qualified for enough loans. I'm also going to apply for NurseCorps if accepted!
