Hello. I recently attended the UCSF MEPN information session and I am really excited about the program. I am still finishing my pre-reqs and I want to be as ready as possible. Anyone else out there looking to apply for 2019?
Also,I would love any advice on rounding out my application for PMHNP.
Stats:
Undergrad theater major 3.3, Science and Pre-reqs (prob) 3.7
GRE Verb 48th %tile Quant 30th %tile Analytical 18th %tile
Work Exp: 10 useless years in the film business and then 3 years Admin at private practice and hospital
Volunteer: UCLA nursing, Suicide Crisis Hotline, Veteran's Administration Domicilliary
LOR: Prob only 4 really great ones. Is not sending 5 a bad idea?
I would love to hear from you!
Hi @psychache! Thank you so much for creating this thread! I, like the rest of you guys, are planning to apply for the Fall 2019 cohort. I'm going for the AGPCNP route. I just found out that the GRE was no longer required for MEPN (and here i was stressing over a study plan lol, purchased study materials last year and everything). Application cycle opens on the 2nd and I'm frankly a little nervous about it! Best of luck to all!
Hey guys! There are actually 2 statements (sorry!). They just changed the page on what was required to apply for the MEPN. In the previous years, I saw that it stated both personal and goal statements were required. But now I just see that a goal statement was required. But I e-mailed Steven Johnson and he said both were still required. My mistake!

So there's going to be two statements?? I was busting my butt on this one ; A;
Actually they revamped the whole site:
- Explain how your goals align with the program's goals and resources.
- A written goal statement is required, which is to be PDF-formatted and submitted on-line via the UCSF web application system.
- Within the on-line application are detailed instructions on the format and content of this essay; make sure your name appears at the top.
Hi all! Hard to believe that the application opens tomorrow (!!!)
Question regarding finances... If you all were to be accepted, how are you planning to pay for tuition, rent in SF, books, travel, etc.?? I am going to be completely independent and responsible for all costs with no parental or spousal support, and I'm starting to get really anxious about the costs as the application process gets closer. Does anyone know about how much federal aid will cover for tuition and/or how much you can take out on loan for living expenses?
Excited to start the app tomorrow! Wishing everyone positive thoughts as y'all begin too!
Morning everyone! I am in the process of just making a rough draft of my application, though I was at a lost when I read that:
As of 2/1/18, the following specialties will be closed for new applications:
Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
Family Nurse Practitioner
Nurse-Midwifery/Women's Health Nurse Practitioner
I emailed SJ asking if this is for real bc 1) these options are still available from the list of specialties when you click on them, and 2) that would put the biggest wrench in my plans/personal statement/career! I'll let you know when he responds, hoping this isn't so....
I did not see that. Where did you find that. I am a bit turned around by the new website.
As far as money goes, I spoke to a mepn student who said there was a mepn scholarship for the first year for those who qualify. I asked him if it was significant and he said "it took the sting off". I will be applying for nursecorps and nhsc as well as smaller scholarships. According to the info online these scholarships will backtrack even though the award date is after mepn starts.
I'm so stressed out. Good luck!

Same... I almost finished my first draft for the goal statement but Steven replied and said there would be two statements. I checked on the online application too. No guidelines for the personal history statement so I'm assuming it's the same for both the statements!
