UCSF MEPN 2019

Published

Hello. I recently attended the UCSF MEPN information session and I am really excited about the program. I am still finishing my pre-reqs and I want to be as ready as possible. Anyone else out there looking to apply for 2019?

Also,I would love any advice on rounding out my application for PMHNP.

Stats:

Undergrad theater major 3.3, Science and Pre-reqs (prob) 3.7

GRE Verb 48th %tile Quant 30th %tile Analytical 18th %tile

Work Exp: 10 useless years in the film business and then 3 years Admin at private practice and hospital

Volunteer: UCLA nursing, Suicide Crisis Hotline, Veteran's Administration Domicilliary

LOR: Prob only 4 really great ones. Is not sending 5 a bad idea?

I would love to hear from you!

Hi @psychache, thanks so much for creating the thread for 2019! I am very excited about the program too. I have been preparing for a couple years now and am finally ready to apply this summer. I have been following previous years' threads and they are super helpful! I am sure this thread will be just as helpful and a great place for us to support each other! Good luck!

Thank you so SO much for sharing this @isabellala, you have no idea! I was just about to register to take it and I just called the phone number that is on the MEPN Admission Requirements page to confirm what it says on the link that you shared [(415) 476-1435] and she said that it is not required as of April 1! Has anyone else been able to confirm this as well?

I'm glad to see other people are prepping!

isabellala- Thanks! I had no idea.

So, I have been focused on UCSF as my number one school choice and recently got hired to work as a psych hospital and I see that a lot of the nurses around me went to less competitive schools like the for profit nursing schools. Does anyone have thoughts on why they are choosing UCSF?

I just double checked and it's TRUE! I had no idea as well... This is going to save me from a lot of stress. :-)

Yes me too. I was going to prep while taking nutrition. Now I can focus on my app! Thanks for sharing the info!

Because they have the MEPN option and because they have the concentration that I want, Public Health. If it doesn't work out later and if after applying for a few years, I still am not accepted anywhere, I will probably look into for profit.

Hey everyone! I've been trying to brainstorm and make some bullet points in order to start on my goal statement. I've been having some trouble and was wondering if anyone had advice or opinions? I believe they removed the personal history statement portion for this round of applications, so it'll just be the goal statement? I'm wondering if you guys are thinking about using your personal history/experience in your goal statements? I know that on the website, it says to focus on our knowledge of the nursing profession, our goals as a nurse, and how UCSF can help us with our goals... So I'm not 100% sure if I should just strictly focus on that (I wanted to add in some personal history/experience into it, but now I'm not so sure about it).

I'm sure as I write it, my personal history and/or experiences will have to do with my goals as a nurse and the other parts of the statement, so I would say yes as long as it ties back into the main thing that you are trying to say.

Hey y'all - was actually wondering if a UCSF 2019 thread was going to be made! I'm also annoyed that I had also registered for the GRE in late July, but hey, I'm applying to other schools too. Was interested in the WHNP track and hopefully minoring in Psych/Mental Health. :)

Oops I accidentally posted twice. I hope more people join this thread! I'm so nervous about applying. I think applications open up the first week of July (not entirely sure though).
