Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the UCSF MEPN program (among a few others) this summer/fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
I know this is jumping the gun but I'm curious about this in general: anyone know anything about grad student housing? Not just UCSF but in general. I couldn't find anything on the website about it but that would be a tad scary if paying for full-priced housing in SF would have to be another consideration when we can't work for 15+ months in the program :/
Hey everyone! Make sure you check your bank statements- I got charged twice for the UCSF application fee. The first time it said error, and when I logged back in it still said it was unpaid so I re-typed all of my info and turns out the system did charge me twice :/ just a head's up in case this happened to anyone else!
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Having worked on a previous admissions committee before, I can tell you that they are not going to really get started until Octoberish. Right now, they are just ensuring that everyone meets the basic requirements so they can pare down the final applicant pool. They will also begin weeding out people whose GPAs are not satisfactory for admission. You will probably get an email from Steven Johnson, the program manager, telling you that your file is incomplete. If I might make a suggestion, get another letter recommender to write you a letter, so you can email it into Steven Johnson directly so that you can email it to him directly sooner rather than later. It also wouldn't hurt to drop a line to your original recommender with a gentle reminder: "I hate to bother you knowing how busy your schedule is, but I was wondering if I might ask you to send your letter into the admission committee since the deadline has passed. If for any reason you can't send it in, would you please let me know so I might get someone else to write a letter on my behalf. Thanks again for your help, etc." Good luck. Keep us posted! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Hi there everyone!
Congratulations on submitting your applications! I'm a recent graduate of the UCSF CNM/WHNP program (previous MEPN too!), and I'm looking for volunteers for the Miles for Midwives fundraiser this October 11th. It's a 5K run in Golden Gate Park to raise money for AB1306, which seeks to remove physician supervision from the California nurse-midwifery statute to allow midwives to work to the full extent of their training and expand maternity care access in California. The very low-key run is taking place from 8:30-1:00, and we're looking for volunteers to help us set up tables, show people the course, register people...etc. We also need an EMT or two!! Are any of you EMTs?
It's a really good opportunity to meet people in the UCSF and pregnancy and birthing community. We're expecting tons of UCSF alums (most of whom were MEPNs), professors, current students, local midwives, labor and delivery nurses, pregnant people and their families, and local community organizers. If you can't volunteer, feel free to run the race instead! Register here: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/sf-miles-for-midwives-5k-fun-ru…
If you're interested in volunteering, send me a message or email me at [email protected], and I'll get you set up.
Thanks!
Warmly,
Vanessa

Officially submitted... figured I would submit a few hours early because it would be my luck to try and submit at 11pm and it not work! My last recommender submitted their letter at 10pm last night, so everything is official and complete. Remember, take a picture of the page that says when the letters of rec were submitted just in case there's an issue!! Good luck to everyone, and the waiting officially begins :)
