UCSF MEPN 2016

Published

Hello!

I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the UCSF MEPN program (among a few others) this summer/fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.

Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?

I'm actually feeling less crazy than I thought I would. I've been surprised at how comforting it's been to have a clear timeline from the school.

I'm still nervous, and anxious in the positive sense, but way more calm than I expected I would be.

If for some reason we don't end up finding out anything by the end of the second week of December though, I might be saying something a little different haha.

The moving thing is definitely something I've been thinking about a lot too. I'm in the DC area now, so I'd need to move for any of the schools I've applied to. For now (while they all still seem like possibilities) it's kind of fun to imagine what it would be like to live somewhere totally different.

I actually got to walk around the UCSF campus a bit in September, and had fun imagining what it would be like if I were accepted. Has anyone else been to visit?

I am starting to get a little nervous, but I agree that it's nice having a solid timeline! Some other schools have no information about dates, so that is driving me crazy.

Thankfully, I live about 2 hours away from UCSF so I don't have to worry so much about moving (for this school at least). I haven't visited yet, though!

Good luck to everyone, I'm sure I'll be biting my nails as December rolls around!

I visited UCSF in May last year and absolutely loved it. I was doing the same- imagining myself going there, where I would live, etc. I got a tour around campus with one of the admissions guys and it was really great. But I can't help but think about the living cost, and I'm in the same boat and would be moving from Austin, TX! I didn't apply anywhere in Texas, so paying for all of this is of course daunting but I told myself if it's meant to be I will figure it out. We'll be getting interview/deny letters the week of my birthday (within a day or two actually) so I'm praying it's a wonderful and not disappointing birthday present!

Whoa! Fingers crossed for good birthday news then :)

I've been reading through posts from previous years and last year it looks like news went out on December 5th, and the previous year news went out around the 9th. It would be awesome if we heard in the first week of December! Trying not to be overly optimistic though.

I spoke with admissions last week, and they confirmed that initial deny letters and interview invites will go out in the 2nd week of December, not the 1st week this year. Just FYI.

Hello all! I'm a second year midwifery student. Was informed there are 63 CNM applicants for 10 positions and 98 FNP applicants for 18 positions. This may change of course, but those are some ballpark numbers! Good luck to everyone :)

Thanks for the info!!

As we get closer to December, I am finding myself wondering if I should have applied to other schools.

Where else did anyone apply besides UCSF and if so, what was that application like?

Happy holidays to you all

I applied to UCSF, Columbia & Yale (my two stretch schools of course), Northeastern, MGH Institute, and Seattle University. Northeastern and Seattle are due on Tuesday, and basically have the same application- very simple demographic info, the same basic essay, 2-3 rec letters and that's pretty much it. Northeastern requires no official transcripts and no GRE scores to be sent. Columbia and Yale were also fairly simple, but seem to place more emphasis on grades and experience rather than the essay. MGH I have barely started, but it's the last one due on Jan 1st. I don't have a plan B if I don't get in this year so I decided to apply to all the schools that appealed to me, even though some I may not have a chance... but why not? I have found that UCSF had the most in-depth application, and even though it required a lot more work, I felt that it gave me many opportunities to show who I am as an individual which I really enjoyed. Good luck!

I applied to Yale, Columbia, Northeastern, and am working on applications to OHSU (both Acc Bacc and DNP) and University of Hawaii. Most apps were similar, like emara9 said, but OHSU and UH are using Nursing CAS, which is a nightmare.

I have no idea what my top choice is. I would absolutely love UCSF, but I would be happy with any.

Thankfully, I do have a back up plan. I applied to Johns Hopkins new program and was accepted. I put a deposit down for the fall start, but would not be torn up if I have to withdraw. Their program is a year and a half MSN, with no advanced practice degree so I would graduate as an RN, and have to re-apply to their DNP program. However, it is such a relief to have a place to go, even though it's not my first choice and not ideal.

Good luck to everybody! I'm starting to get nervous, but I'm telling myself that whatever happens will happen, and right now there's not much I can do to change the outcome.

Hi all,

I also applied to the FNP specialty. I'm getting so nervous! My heart starts pounding just thinking about that second week of December. Hopefully we will get good news!

A bit of background on me: I grew up on a cattle ranch in northern (emphasis on northern) California and graduated in 2014 from UC Davis with a BS in genetics and minor in anthropology. I've volunteered a bit in hospitals and in a homeless shelter, and have also worked full-time as a CNA for the past 1+ years while getting prerequisites together. I love it but am definitely ready for more responsibilities! I also applied to Samuel Merritt's ABSN (San Mateo) and ELMSN (Oakland) programs, but that's it--I'm pretty much constrained to the Bay Area for the next few years, so I didn't bother applying elsewhere.

Anyway, I'm glad I stumbled on this thread! Good luck everyone! [emoji4]

I applied to direct entry FNP programs at UCSF, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Yale. I also applied to direct entry MSN CNL programs at UVA and USD (San Diego). I've had an interview with UVA so far, and am patiently waiting to hear from the other schools.
