Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the UCSF MEPN program (among a few others) this summer/fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
I sent a one-week reminder to all my recommenders that the letters are due in about a week. Two of them told me they never got the email request, which I sent on the 8th... Has anyone else come across this issue? I'm super worried now and I re-sent every request. Also, anyone know who to contact about this? I know third parties have more time and can submit after the 1st, but I'd rather get them in sooner rather than later.
I can't remember exactly where I read it, but either on the MEPN page or on the application somewhere it says that third parties such as recommenders and transcript orders etc. don't have to be in on the 1st. I'm assuming they only give a few extra days, but basically anything out of our direct control they allow some leeway (if we sent the requests and things to give them a decent amount of time). I didn't know who to contact so I emailed the general admission info email, and I haven't heard back from any recommenders whether or not they received the requests I sent today. I'm really nervous about this especially because I don't exactly know what the recommendations entail- whether it's just a letter or if they have to fill out forms as well.
Just found the quote:
"At the deadline, the application is locked and no more applicant-submitted material can be accepted. The application will continue to receive third-party submissions (such as transcripts, recommendations, and the scores of pre-deadline-administered tests) in the weeks following the deadline."
I found it on this page: Masters Entry Program (MEPN) Admission Deadline and Screening Process | UCSF School of Nursing
Thanks for that info! I remember reading that too, but couldn't remember where and was starting to doubt I had read it in the first place.
In that line of thinking I also recall that recommenders submit their letters online through the link provided via email, and that they are also asked to rank the applicants on a scale of 1-6. I'm not sure how extensive that process may be, but I do remember it wasn't just a simple upload. I'm actually meeting with one of my recommenders on Saturday, and can share her thoughts on the process afterwards if that would be helpful?
Great, so sounds like a pretty simple process. I was hoping that my recommenders would start writing the letters when I first asked them about it 2 or so months ago, but I guess that wasn't the case so as long as I can get them their emails and stay on top of them about submitting them it should hopefully work out last minute!
Hi All,
I am also applying to UCSF's MEPN program, specifically AGNP. I'm 28 and have a BS in Environmental Management with a minor in Biology. I am also applying to Samuel Merritt University's ABSN program.
I am super nervous about all of it. I am widdling away to condense my goal statement without reducing the value of it. All of my undergrad GPA, pre-req GPA and GRE scores are at the bottom-end of average (like many other continuing education adults, I work full time as well as go to school). A friend of mine who was accepted into the 2015 MEPN cohort advised me not to worry too much over the GRE exam scores - according to who he spoke with mostly at UCSF they just want to see that you've taken them.
I have volunteer experience in a pediatric ER and HIV/AIDS hospice facility but neither of those involved shadowing NPs.
Although my grades and scores are average at best I feel I have the passion and drive to be an NP and that given the opportunity I could excel in this field.
Is anyone else starting to feel the pressure?
Best of luck to everyone!
Everything is ready to submit and I even paid the application fee, but I can't seem to hit that button!! I knew I wanted UCSF badly, but I didn't realize how badly until everything is ready to send in!! I'm definitely having second thoughts about everything now, especially the personal history statement. Anyone else this nervous??

I think it said something like "ending or present date" so I put the day that I filled out the experience section. I think it says somewhere else on there that it is my current employer so they know my job didn't end on the day I filled the app out!
