I'm finishing up my master's entry program and applying to the DNP-FNP. Does anyone know how the program and school really is? I'm curious because I'm at one of the top ranked schools now for my MSN and it has not lived up to our expectations. I've heard that UW has a great program but obviously have my reservations because being ranked highly and having a good name doesn't necessarily transfer into quality education and happy students ...

Bummer, I'm waitlisted. Not sure what my chances are now, but I'm not going to count on it.

@emara9 - Seattle U is the most unorganized program I've encountered. This also happened last year, and they had to allow candidates to interview via skype. I would give them a call and let them know the situation. I'm almost positive they will allow you to do a video/phone interview.

Great thoughts. I'll throw my 2 cents about Seattle, since it seems to be one missing here. PROS: Seattle is awesome (GO HAWKS!) if you can tolerate rainy/gloomy weather. The school is located right in the downtown area, so it's a fun place if you like to enjoy the town in your spare time. Housing is probably in the middle in terms of affordability. Public transportation is pretty good (at least in my experience). The program is also very short - only 2 years or maybe a little over 2 years and you come out fully an NP. It's relatively inexpensive, especially since the program is shorter. CONS: If the program is anything like their admissions process, beware. I applied last year and got totally turned off by the lack of communication, lack of responsiveness, and overall poor organization. They ran so behind on their interview notifications last year that many had to be done over skype. During an info session, someone asked how job placement was right out the program, and the answer was that there may be some "difficulties" in the first year or two, but it "eventually gets better." Very different from a school like UCSF where job placement isn't really an issue. I asked my interviewer and was told that 50% of the class have jobs lined up before they graduate.

Has anyone heard anything yet? I've emailed the lady asking about it and haven't gotten a response.

@holahawaii - from what I remember, they will only have access to your goal statement and personal statement. I was told this last time by my interviewers because they said they were trying to guess what school I went to from my statements. They don't see the rest of your application, so it would be good to bring up other volunteer work or other things in your resume.

The interview questions are generally the same ones you get from all of the programs. They may change the way they word things, but it's basically the same thing. They're focused primarily on 1) Why you chose to pursue this degree/career/specialty, 2) How you will handle the stress and toughness of the program, and 3) Your goals after graduating. The interviewers will have read your personal and goal statements, so you can refer to them but give more details. They will not have seen any other part of your application though (e.g. resume), and therefore won't know about your work, volunteer, or other experiences, so it would be good to discuss those. I'm not sure if things have changed this year (the snail mail notices really threw me for a loop), but if not, those are the themes from the previous years.

@SBCvicen - you're not the only one. My mail was delivered today and still no letter ... I'm down in LA which isn't too far, so I'm surprised it hasn't arrived. Oh well, so the wait continues ...
