UCSF MEPN 2016

Published

Hello!

I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the UCSF MEPN program (among a few others) this summer/fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.

Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?

Beyond nervous! I am on like the 10th draft of my personal history and goal statements. And still waiting on 2 of my recommenders to submit - that makes me really nervous if they have past the 1st to submit.

I feel the same way... can't seem to feel confident enough to submit! I definitely want to submit before the deadline, at least a day before, but I may or may not have to have some liquid courage to press that button :/

I keep editing and editing and editing that goal statement. Getting so nervous!! Good luck in the last few days everyone!!

Hi emmafleur18,

I made it through to the final round last year and was not accepted. I put fluent Spanish on my application, but was nervous about being a little rusty. I joined some Spanish speaking and reading Meetup groups where I could practice, and took a medical terminology course at a local community college. There was no test, and sadly neither of my interviewers inquired about it or even spoke to me in Spanish. I wouldn't worry about it.

Is anyone else experiencing difficulty getting a response from the admissions staff? I emailed a question nearly two weeks ago to one person, then followed up with a call about that and to report that one of my recommenders was unable to post his letter. No response to either message...so then I called the other staff person, who referred me back to the first...I am sure they are all incredibly busy, but this seems ridiculous...like when someone can't come out and tell you to get lost, so they just ignore you and hope you won't bother applying?

When your application is complete, be sure to print a screen shot of the recommendations page with your time stamps. Last year the application system ate two or three of my recommendations, so I had to contact the missing recommenders to have them resubmit after the deadline. The only thing that saved me was my proof of having submitted five recs... Unfortunately I was unable to reach one professor who had gone out on medical leave by then...he is still out this year, so I am short the fifth letter again. Good times! Do I sound like Debbie Downer or what?

@a2rutherford I emailed the email listed on the application (I don't believe I can put it on here, but it's a few different places), and he was relatively quick at responding. I would send another email!

OK super nervous now.

Starting to doubt everything I've written and definitely feeling the pressure.

It is due on September 1st, not by September 1st right?

So tomorrow, not by tonight at midnight right?

Never mind- Just looked at the application. Definitely tomorrow.

I may have officially lost my marbles.

Tomorrow by 11:58pm - a couple minutes shy of midnight.

I wish I could tell you not to be nervous, but I know where you're coming from. If you have a friend to look it over and give you feedback that might take some of the pressure off. But you've made it to this point - you're ready - and soon you have to just let it go. Best of luck to you!

Thanks. I tried that. My recommender did too. We'll see if I get a response.

a2rutherford - I contacted Steven Johnson, the Program Coordinator, last week with a question and he got back to me very quickly...within a half an hour I think.

I am technically done, everything is finished. But I am questioning my goal statement. I used a quote in my goal statement....more like a definition and I cited the source.....I am questioning whether that's a good idea or not.
