UCLA new RN residency program 2010

Published

Hi,

I just wanted to start a thread for people applying to UCLA's new grad program this year. I have filled out the application online, but wondered if I should send a hard copy too. Does anyone else have any information? I heard that for the last new grad class, they had more than 800 applicants for 80 slots. Kind of discouraging...

I've interviewed for another hospital and if I get it I feel torn whether it would be wise to pick the first hospital who hires me. I know UCLA has a really awesome new grad program. I just want to start my career as new nurse in the right setting for me to grow with the right training, teaching and support.

NoMoreSchool I am right there with you in anticipation of hearing the result of the talentplus interview. Just a heads up I went back and read May's application group postings and some people didn't here back until 3-4 weeks after talentplus, then they had their nurse recruiter interview and then two weeks after that had their nurse manager interview and then didn't get a job offer until 3 weeks after their nurse manager interview. The long process is fine with me, but for those of you that have other offers, just fyi it will probably be awhile before you have a definitive answer...

My gosh. The process is definitely long. I wont wait around if I have another job offer else where. There is no guarantee that I will pass the next part of the process with UCLA or if I will even get to the next interview. So the best bet will take which ever hospital offer me a position.

Does anyone know when the program starts? I can't remember if that was written in the job description..which of course is not online anymore.

I believe it was Feb. correct me if I'm wrong

I think you're right tomato_head. It said the program would start feb/march. SO far from now.

I hate that it is such a long process!! If I had another job offer from another hospital and UCLA ended up accepting me I would be so upset haha.

haha me too!! It would have been so nice if this whole process would be over by Christmas...but I can see that is probably not the case. :(

Are there anyone else still scheduling for an interview or is scheduled? Just want to know if TalentPlus interviews are over. My friend had hers this week.

I agree, currently UCLA is one of my top choices, and I honestly don't know what I would do if I got a job offer from a facility not so high on my preference list. It's like a gamble: Should I (A) go with the 1st offer since it ensures me a job, or (B) Opt to wait to see if I get through the multiple interviews for UCLA, which will deliver a far more superior learning & support experience--though without the certainty of the 1st offer?

That's though. Fortunately (or rather unfortunately), at the moment I don't have the luxury (or burden) of choice at this moment. Good luck to every applicant out there--no matter where you are along the process. In a sense, we're all in this together...I sincerely hope that every new nurse finds employment one way or another, and eventually (if not immediately) secures the job of their dreams! :nurse:

Thanks for sharing this information. The anticipation is killing me too! But knowing this will at least keep me sane for a couple weeks...since subsequent calls won't be expected til the end of Nov/beginning of Dec.

My status still says "You have been contacted for an interview" I hope I hear something..

I called UCLA after my talentplus interview( which was last Wednesday) to see when we will start hearing back from them and HR said 3-4 weeks after the interview. She said we will be contacted whether or not we move on or not.. phone call if we do and a letter if we don't. She said we also have the chance of being waitlisted and I don't know how that works. The anticipation is killing me! I don't know why it would be almost a month before we hear back from them, that's so long.. especially for those who have job offers who are waiting on an answer from UCLA.

Hey Tomato head =)

I just got off the phone with one of the nurse recruiters at UCLA. She had said that there were over 1200 applicants that applied to the winter new grad program and about 200 applicants received an invitation to a talentplus phone interview. I believe all the phone interviews have been over with now and that they would start contacting candidates in approximately two weeks. The last step to the interview process is an in-person interview with a unit manager. Hope this information helps a little! Happy early Thanksgiving!

Wow, over 1200 applicants! Good to know, I was about to call UCLA as well so thanks for posting this. Good luck to everyone applying! If we don't make it through this time around, there's still the summer program...

Thank you Potassium for letting us know what's up. At least we are not in the dark any more. Do we need to go thru another interview with the nursing recruiter or just the unit manager? I am confused bc I thought we need to go thru another interview with the nursing recruiter and if we pass that one, then the unit manager. Potassium, can you clarify?

Good luck everyone. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
