UCLA New Grad RN SUMMER 2011
THere were some nurses (experienced) at the interview interviewing for L&D, Peds, and NICU when I was there at the interview. Last time when I interviewed for Neuro ICU, the unit manager told me she usually hires new grad and nurses (experience) at the same time in the new grad program. I think this is how it works for most hospital. Unit manager do not want to be saturated with all new grads. Experience nurses who are from other units also get new grad training but are usually are ready to work before new grads. When I applied to St Joseph for L&D, they had 3 open positions for supposedly new grads. I was called in for an interview but they did not interview me once they found out I did not have my license yet but there were nurses (with Med surge experience) there interviewing for the same positions. So, I figured if I apply to a specialty dept, then there will be experienced nurses to compete with. That's reality of life, but it sucks for new grads!!!!

Juliehan info regarding the internal apps is true. Let me clearly correct the information. When I asked HR regarding that info regarding the fact that most open positions are being filled up by the internal appls, she said there are still room for external apps, that's why she was calling me in for an interview. She did not elaborate further. Basically, even though most positions are being filled up by internals, there is still room for external apps.

I turned my package into HR the last day when it was due. I thought they wont even look at my apps since I turn it in so late, but HR said they will look at all apps as long as it was turn in by the deadline. On that day, HR informed me that they will make calls to applicants beginning of May until the middle of May or so. I totally agreed with juliehan. So dont loose hope guys/gals. Still have until the middle of May and possibly even further than that to get that call. Be positive and pray. Dont give up hope!! I did get a call for a preliminary interview also. I did get a chance to ask the recruiter if most positions were taken up with internal applications and she replied no. Hey juliehan, congrats for the interview. BTW, when is your interview and for what department?

UCLA New Grad RN SUMMER 2011
So she did say 10 "new grads"? That's strange bc she told me 8-10 positions (not new grads), but she is thinking of 10 since there are so many people she has to interview. When I was there, I did see nurses who already worked at UCLA waiting to be interviewed by her so I doubt the 10 positions were for all new grads, I think there is a mixture of new grads and nurses who just want to get into L&D. Those UCLA nurses will have priority since they already are experienced RNs and already are UCLA employees, so I was pretty bumped out. I am sorry if my information is wrong but it's just my interpretation.

UCLA New Grad RN SUMMER 2011
Hey dsapon01 and Iloveucla, My interview was in the morning. I havent heard anything from the UD either. So, no news is hopefully good news as of now. i did email the UD regarding some missing paperwork in my file and she did reply saying thanks for letting her know. That was it. She did not say anything further. I did not ask her about her decision in the email because during my interview she told me she will/might have 2 days of interviewing because so many people applied to L&D since there was no oppening for the last cohort so everyone was waiting for L&D to open for this new grad application. So, I think she should be interviewing around 40 + people for 2 days and will take 8-10, most likely 10. Thats why I didnt want to bother her since she has double the applications to deal with. However, I think we will hear from her this week for sure. good luck to us.

The UD also told me she would make her decision early this week also. She told me to email or call her if I dont get a response by this week. I am not going to call her though. I will just wait for her to call or email me with her decision once she's ready. No use to bother these UD since they are so busy. Just be patient dsapon01, it's only Monday. I am sure that she will definitely call or email candidates that she wants and if she forgets about one particular candidate, that candidate probably didnt get selected. If I dont get a phone call from her this week, I probably didnt get selected...I will contact her by then.
