UCLA New Graduate Residency Winter 2019-2020

Nurses Job Hunt

Updated:   Published

I am posting this forum as a place to discuss the UCLA Winter 2019-2020 RN residency application! As a quick update, the application just opened today Oct 11th and will remain open until Oct 20th.

Good Luck ?

Did anyone hear back for an interview for the pediatric oncology unit or any of the other pediatric acute care units? I put peds and peds as my two choices and have not received a rejection email yet

Thanks!

Still have not heard back from peds either! From what I gathered from this forum and the FB group, only a few people have been contacted for an interview but there are still open spots on the sign up sheet. I guess we will wait and see this week if we hear anything! Fingers crossed ?

Hi! Chiming in a little late, but I received an email for a peds interview on Monday 11/25, and like you said @KN4444 I saw open slots on the sheet! Crossing my fingers for everyone awaiting emails and sending all the good luck ?

Thank you so much! I hope they're just going at a slower pace and it isn't closed out yet. If it isn't too much to ask, could you give some insight on what was on your resume like GPA, volunteer/work experience, etc.?

Can those interviewing this week and next week report back to us with what the interview was like/what questions they asked/what to expect?

I know you aren’t asking me lol.. but I didn’t put my GPA or volunteer work on my resume, only my clinical rotations. So I don’t think they look at that heavily (at least initially). They will ask you to bring your unofficial transcript to the interview though

@Hi_Im_Angie I remember you mentioning you got an interview for 7E/5E, do you remembering how many slots were available? I havent seen any other medsurg units contacting so I’m hoping they’re just slow

Hi ,

I've interviewed with them before. You can expect to interview with the unit director and usually the director who runs the new grad program for that floor and they will ask you personality questions, and questions on scenarios you’ve gone through and things like that no clinical questions. I hope that helps ease the anxiety. the interview is pretty “casual” in the sense that it’s more about trying to get to know you.

@nurseeeeb Hi, I received an interview for Peds Acute Care! It’s only a 20-min slot so I prepared heavily for behavioral questions. What kind of scenario questions do they ask? Prioritization? Or is it kinda like a step-by-step/what would you do?

Thank you so much for the input!!

So are peds pretty much done as far as offering interviews

I think all units have sent out invites already. But they’re keeping us as in review in case more positions open up or people cancel. When I last spoke with them they said there’s usually more than one round of interviews.

I think you’re right on the money. I think they’re just keeping the rest of us until they make final picks as runner ups.
