I've applied to UCSD and Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center this past week. I'm from San Diego, so I've been trying all over LA and Orange County because San Diego is just too saturated with new grad RNs. I am currently a charge nurse at a SNF, and even though it is not my first choice, I'm just doing what I can right now. Eventually I would love to end up in a hospital. Will keep trying though. Good luck to you! I heard USC had a new grad program as well, not sure if they are still accepting apps though =[

Oh that's great! and yes USC still takes application until 14th. so just apply to that one too.

at least you have a job already, but me I don't and I'm really stressed out now!!!!!!! :(

Don't give up hope Liver ICUers....she was out on vacation until today...She may be interviewing a few more cause she didn't fill ALL her spots! We still have a chance and until I hear a definate "NO", I'm keeping the faith...but also applying to other places in the mean time. :nurse:

Did you happen to interview with D.F.? I'm still waiting to hear from her.. but I guess I'm out of the running since I didn't hear anything. But all in all, i'm so stoked for you! Congrats :yeah:!!!

yes, I did interview with D.F. she said she only hired 2 people. she called me last fri the 6th.

for you and all others who may not have made it at UCLA this round: keep going!

I graduated in December and have officially applied to 90 positions (yes, ninety) in 4 states before getting this UCLA job.

that's not counting just networking and sending out my resumes to people. so, good luck everyone and take care of yourselves during the job search.

I found eating well, spending time with friends, regular exercise, and meditation helped me keep a positive attitude.

First of all.. CONGRATS TO THOSE WHO GOT POSITIONS!!

Secondly.. to the NICU applicants..

I spoke to HR today & they said that the NICU was still making decisions about the applicants. They stated that they will be planning on hiring 8 individuals but that calls have not yet been made ( I know someone received an offer - I'm hoping that was the only one. congrats to you by the way!! woohoo!!). They are thinking that they will be making calls by Monday to those that have been chosen. Let's all cross our fingers folks! We're almost to the UCLA NICU judgment day! AHH - ok.. *breathe*

Oh no I was in the group of ppl who were interviewed already in the month of April so we haven't gotten any results or calls back of our status. They mentioned making decisions on May 16th and now it sounds like they're interviewing another set! So that gives me more reason to believe that I'm off the hook! lol! but good luck in your interview!!!

My daughter was waitlisted and will have interview next week. She thought she did not have any chances coz of the "waitlist"

Don't worry too much yet, it may be for a second round of in-person interviews. That's what PICU is doing.

By august 8th! So you are transferring your license from another state? My plan was to send in as much paperwork as I can for the CA license and temp license in advanced, Take my boards around June 15, send in the verification, then fly out and do the live scan in July at the same time as I do my physical and stuff for ucla. Then I have to make a day trip to Sacramento to pick up my temp license a few weeks later.

I requested a card too though. Did you just fill out that one part of the website and not pay anything yet? I'm still confused about some stuff on the website :( lol.

I wasn't sure if I could fill out an online "application for licensure by examination", is that the one part you are talking about? I wasn't going to bother getting my license for my home state.. I was just gonna do my CA one..I'm not sure how much we can do online?

ooh, thanks for the update. i guess it's good that she's still on vacation. i must have misunderstood her when i spoke to her a few weeks ago - i thought she was gonna be back in the office last monday. *fingers crossed*

I know she came back from vacation today. I emailed her Monday, so hopefully I get some kind of response this week, but I've been reading on the thread that she's interviewing a few more new grads so maybe we all won't hear from her until next week? Has anyone contacted her today?

So they'll only be making calls to those that have offers? And no phone calls or emails to those that didn't? I hope we find out on Monday either way!!

I can't believe they're taking 8!!! Last time I talked to the assistant UD she said she thought they'd only take 4-5...so I'm so happy to hear that its practically double!! And a better chance for all of us!

I called HR to get the UD's phone number, but instead they answered my question. I'm not quite sure about whether or not those who didn't get the job will get call as well - didn't get to talk to the direct source. I'm hoping for some notice either way.. the wait is truly getting the best of me.

I have nightmares of rejection e-mails! > why must they torture us with this wait.

THere were some nurses (experienced) at the interview interviewing for L&D, Peds, and NICU when I was there at the interview. Last time when I interviewed for Neuro ICU, the unit manager told me she usually hires new grad and nurses (experience) at the same time in the new grad program. I think this is how it works for most hospital. Unit manager do not want to be saturated with all new grads. Experience nurses who are from other units also get new grad training but are usually are ready to work before new grads. When I applied to St Joseph for L&D, they had 3 open positions for supposedly new grads. I was called in for an interview but they did not interview me once they found out I did not have my license yet but there were nurses (with Med surge experience) there interviewing for the same positions.

So, I figured if I apply to a specialty dept, then there will be experienced nurses to compete with. That's reality of life, but it sucks for new grads!!!!
