UCLA New Grad one year program 2011

Published

I am graduating this December 2010 as an ADN. I want to make sure I apply for UCLA's new grad program the day the application opens. Is there anyone else with this plan? Does anyone have the link to where this application will appear? I have looked at many informational screens but have not found a link to an application. I figured it might be on the UCLA job search site, so I opened a profile there. I do not live in CA, I am out of state. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yeah it seems really weird to me too that nobody is posting anything about hearing from UCLA. Looking at all the people who participate on these forums..its quite strange. Hoping that the process is just taking longer then we all thought it would and hoping for some calls soon!!

Some humor while we are all waiting patiently: Can you relate? New Grad RN Job Hunt (video, 2 min 25 sec)

From Los Angeles, and a UCLA alumni :(

Vanessa RN....Thanks for the humor, I'm sure a lot of people here can relate. Hopefully since I called the nurse recruiter and turned down an interview today, it opened the door for someone else. The position was for oncology in Santa Monica. I'm a week into my job at Loma Linda and feel it's a right fit. Even though I had two externships in oncology and all the clinicals, it's amazing how much I don't know, but Loma Linda seems to have really patient preceptors. Again good luck to all of you...

Persistancepays... thanks for all the info you have given us. I also applied for oncology, I did my preceptorship on an oncology floor and I loved it, but you are right there are always soooo many things to learn, I was not allowed to give chemo or blood transfusions, but I practiced a lot with everything else. Good luck with the new job, and hopefully UCLA does keep those calls coming.

You've shared lots of great information and I wish you the very best in your new job! :nurse:

Hello persistancepays, first of all I'd like to thank you for sharing information about your job hunting experience it really help answer some of my questions. However, I just have a few more to ask. Before you got an interview did you submit any letters of recommendations? and also do you have your BSN or an ADN? Did you apply for the new grad program at loma linda that will be located in Murrieta, Ca?

Mariziehpooh,

When I applied to UCLA I sent in just what they required on the website. There are so many that I applied to, but I don't remember sending in letters of recom. I think that was covered by the 3 references I gave. They had to fill in the computer questions generated by UCLA recommending me. I used my preceptor from my two externships, the charge nurse on the floor, and the head of CSUSM nursing school. Then came the TalentPlus interview and after a 3 week wait, the phone call. You also asked what I graduated with, I graduated there with my BSN. As for Loma Linda, I've only been there two weeks and know I made the right choice. They have great preceptors in the new grad program who know what it is like going through the program since many of them went through it less than 2 years ago themselves. I'm at the Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda. They are not accepting new grads to Murrieta but told us that after our first year we can ask to transfer there and will be given priority. I'll see how it goes. I wish you luck.

I got a call yesterday! They are still looking to fill some spots! Don't give up just yet. They said they will start calling again after the New Year.

So I wanted to let everyone know about my experience. I decided to call the other day to follow up on my application. I told the recruiter that I had heard the ER (my first choice) wasn't able to hire as many new grads as they had intended so I thought maybe that screwed me. Sure enough, the ER had 3 positions that they filled with internal applicants. She also told me that my 2nd & 3rd choice units (Med-Surg/Stepdown & Oncology) were already full. So that's that.

So it's good news that they are still making calls, but it really depends on the units you chose if you still have a chance or not.

Feliz ano nuevo!!

I was thinking that also, that it depends on the units. I also think it depends on your clinical site of your preceptorship. I have a friend who applied for MICU as her first choice. But because she had preceptorship in DOU they offered that to her. I guess they're looking for those with background experience. Which sucks because not everyone got placed in their preceptorship of choice, well at least thats how it was at our school with our class. And what if we had preceptorship at a certain unit and realize that that unit wasn't meant for us?

Haha, okay thats all for my venting.

Let's keep each other posted! Im going to call UCLA first thing on monday since theyve closed this entire past week.

PS. I am really praying that this new year will bring us some good news.

They offered her a position or interview for DOU? You should for sure call to see what is going on, maybe there are spots left in the units you are interested in. I really do hope this year brings us good news, and good luck with the call on Monday!
