UCLA MECN 2017

Published

Hey, I am currently getting ready to apply to the UCLA MECN program. I went to UCLA yesterday to meet with the nursing advisor and since I have 2 C's, one in psych and one in Stats, she advised me to repeat one of them because I can't have more than one C on my transcripts. I plan on taking Micro this fall. In terms of work experience, I work with an agency facilitating care for end of life patients. I really want to get into the UCLA program but I will also be applying to CSULA, CSUN, CSUCI, CSUSM and USF, Western and

Anyway, I just wanted to create a thread for those applying same time as I so we can discuss. Fyi I will be attending the info session on July 26!

I really want to specialize though so I'm kind of bummed that the MECN doesn't offer a specialty, I would have to do a post-masters program.

How many classes can you have in progress when applying?

If a class is repeated, do they average the two or disregard the lower grade totally?

How much is the program in total?

Do MECN graduates make more in terms of salary than BSNs?

Thanks for creating the page, I never got around to do it even though I said I would  I just requested to add!

I took it online at CSULB for $800 during the winter! It was the quickest I've ever taken a class. Maybe you can add it for spring or summer.

Hi CZTRN!

Thanks for making that FB page. I saw that the UC Berkeley Extension offers an online course..just wondering have you checked with anyone over at UCLA if the online course would suffice?

If it's online and it's cheaper it seems like a great alternative to taking Nursing 50 at UCLA.

No problem! I emailed UCLA but I haven't received a reply yet. Apparently it is an approved course. Im probably gonna take it because, compared to Nursing 50, it's a lot cheaper!

Awesome, I will give it a read, thank you!

Just out of curiosity for those on this thread who have not heard back from the school yet--

Do any of your portal decisions say anything besides

"You should soon be receiving a response directly from your major program regarding a decision on your application." ?

My portal said "You should soon be hearing.." and I just received my rejection letter in the mail. I figured that's what it meant after seeing others get rejected with that message in previous years and those accepted or on the alternate list still have the "no decision" status.

Just requested to join the group! :)

I have a friend who applied that isn't on all nurses and she also received a rejection letter today in the mail

For anyone wondering stats on number of applicants they received this year: over 440 applications, admitted 70 and have 40 on an alternate list

Had the WORST DAY ever at work. Came home to find rejection letter from UCLA. When it rains, it pours!

Hello Everyone,

I also applied to MECN and I received my rejection letter in the mail today. I would like to take the opportunity to provide support and encouragement. For those of you applying for the first time, do not let this hold you back from your dreams! There is always next year. We will all end up in an institution where we belong. Stay hopeful and keep fighting to be the amazing nurses ya'll will be. :)
