UCLA MECN 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey, I am currently getting ready to apply to the UCLA MECN program. I went to UCLA yesterday to meet with the nursing advisor and since I have 2 C's, one in psych and one in Stats, she advised me to repeat one of them because I can't have more than one C on my transcripts. I plan on taking Micro this fall. In terms of work experience, I work with an agency facilitating care for end of life patients. I really want to get into the UCLA program but I will also be applying to CSULA, CSUN, CSUCI, CSUSM and USF, Western and

Anyway, I just wanted to create a thread for those applying same time as I so we can discuss. Fyi I will be attending the info session on July 26!

I really want to specialize though so I'm kind of bummed that the MECN doesn't offer a specialty, I would have to do a post-masters program.

How many classes can you have in progress when applying?

If a class is repeated, do they average the two or disregard the lower grade totally?

How much is the program in total?

Do MECN graduates make more in terms of salary than BSNs?

Hi! I live in pacific palisades, moved from calabasas to be closer to campus once I deciddd to go to UCLA. Plenty of people in our cohort have a much longer commute than I do and they are managing just fine. I do think they would tell you that if you have the option, live closer. You end up having to come to campus early and leave late to avoid traffic otherwise. Maybe this is ok for you if you don't have kids or anyone to take care of at home and you can save money living further.

I know some people that applied to grad student housing but didn't get in. You should be able to see the prices for housing online, I don't remember it being particularly cheap. I can double check and ask on our fb group to see if anyone is in student housing if you'd like.

Re fin aid, SON has really generous donors. There are lots of scholarship opportunities. We had the chance to apply (one letter for all scholarships) in May I think. There are also fellowship opportunities. Everyone I know got at least 10 grand and some even more. When I spoke to fin aid about it they told me that pretty much everyone who applies for scholarships expect an avg of 5 grand. Pretty awesome!

Happy to answer any other questions!
