Hey, I am currently getting ready to apply to the UCLA MECN program. I went to UCLA yesterday to meet with the nursing advisor and since I have 2 C's, one in psych and one in Stats, she advised me to repeat one of them because I can't have more than one C on my transcripts. I plan on taking Micro this fall. In terms of work experience, I work with an agency facilitating care for end of life patients. I really want to get into the UCLA program but I will also be applying to CSULA, CSUN, CSUCI, CSUSM and USF, Western and
Anyway, I just wanted to create a thread for those applying same time as I so we can discuss. Fyi I will be attending the info session on July 26!
I really want to specialize though so I'm kind of bummed that the MECN doesn't offer a specialty, I would have to do a post-masters program.
How many classes can you have in progress when applying?
If a class is repeated, do they average the two or disregard the lower grade totally?
How much is the program in total?
Do MECN graduates make more in terms of salary than BSNs?
STAFF UPDATE
Tell us about UCLA by visiting University of California (UCLA) School of Nursing | Peer Reviews.
Me too. I received this email saying
"The Admissions for the Master Entry Clinical Nurse (MECN) Program is complete for Fall 2017. I will definitely let you know if there are any last minute changes. This generally happens every year. Therefore, if you complete Epidemiology this Summer, there is a 50/50 chance of still being offered admissions. This alternate status is valid for Fall 2017 only.
If you're not admitted and choose to apply for Fall 2018, we will be having admission information sessions starting July 2017. We suggest you check the website at the end of May for updated dates."
i guess i will go ahead with my USD Admission or pray that UCI accepts me.
I also applied to APU and Western , I got into APU and have an interview for Western on Monday. APU and Western are about 3 to 4 yr programs but they lead u to Nurse Practitioner. UCLA is just R.N
Hello,
I noticed you applied to the three programs I will be applying to this fall/spring APU, Western and UCLA. Do you mind sharing your GPA and what schools you got into or waitlisted and which you decided to attend
Sure, I can share. I was accepted for fall 2017 entry. Overall GPA: 3.8, pre-req GPA: 4.0, EMT certification + experience, 2,000 plus direct patient care hours, multiple volunteer experiences. I think the statement and letters of Rec were really important for UCLA. Make sure you follow the instructions for the statement and make yourself stand out. Also have a bunch of people look over it if you can. Let me know if you have questions!
Hi! I've applied to the Fall 2018 cohort and am waiting to hear back. I'm curious about where folks who attend now live - does anyone dare live on the east side? Or does it not really matter given the clinical schedules, etc etc.
Generally, I'm curious to know more about housing - does anyone live in student housing? How much (roughly) do you pay in rent?
I'm also wondering if anyone received financial aid in a form other than loans?
Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion! I meant that they have only accepted alternates up to #13 from the initial waitlist.
So I would take your initial ranking and subtract 13. It should give you an estimate of what ranking you are now.
