Hey, I am currently getting ready to apply to the UCLA MECN program. I went to UCLA yesterday to meet with the nursing advisor and since I have 2 C's, one in psych and one in Stats, she advised me to repeat one of them because I can't have more than one C on my transcripts. I plan on taking Micro this fall. In terms of work experience, I work with an agency facilitating care for end of life patients. I really want to get into the UCLA program but I will also be applying to CSULA, CSUN, CSUCI, CSUSM and USF, Western and
Anyway, I just wanted to create a thread for those applying same time as I so we can discuss. Fyi I will be attending the info session on July 26!
I really want to specialize though so I'm kind of bummed that the MECN doesn't offer a specialty, I would have to do a post-masters program.
How many classes can you have in progress when applying?
If a class is repeated, do they average the two or disregard the lower grade totally?
How much is the program in total?
Do MECN graduates make more in terms of salary than BSNs?

Hi all!I wish I had known this thread existed sooner. I applied to APU's EL-MSN program and of course UCLA's MECN program. I found out I got into both (still feels surreal...) and now I'm trying to decide where to go. Do you guys plan on pursuing advance practice nursing after completing the MECN? In APU's program you automatically continue on after taking the NCLEX, and that's a big lure for me. Just wondering what everyone's pros/cons of UCLA are!
Thanks guys and good luck to everyone still waiting to hear from admissions!
someone on last years thread (ucla mecn 2016) was in the same situation as you. Im not sure what he/she ended up doing but good advice was given. Its worth taking a look at!

Hi,
I would suggest looking at the pricing of both schools and decide whether or not you would want to eventually do advanced practice. Just letting you know that there are nurses who have their advanced practice license and still work at the bedside. I have worked with RNs who actually work at the bedside in the hospital 2-3 days a week and work in a clinic as an NP other days of the week. They say they loved learning the advanced practice side of nursing but also couldn't leave the bedside! I would prefer to have that advanced practice license right away so I don't have to go back to school for it.

Also, here is RF's response from an email I sent earlier today regarding admission statuses for those who haven't heard back. Just got to stay hopeful!
"We are still working on all admissions notifications. Please contact me in the end of March with additional questions. Thank you for your understanding"
Just checked my app status online and it says: "You should soon be receiving a response directly from your major program regarding a decision on your application."
it didn't say that last night... from past forums it looks like these are rejections. anyone else receive this or have any idea what it means?

I also received this too. I hope it doesn't mean rejection but we'll just have to wait and see!
Where are you seeing the ""You should soon be receiving a response directly from your major program regarding a decision on your application." message? I am looking on the Decision Desk App website and I don't see any change to my application status and I haven't gotten any emails at all.
