Hey, I am currently getting ready to apply to the UCLA MECN program. I went to UCLA yesterday to meet with the nursing advisor and since I have 2 C's, one in psych and one in Stats, she advised me to repeat one of them because I can't have more than one C on my transcripts. I plan on taking Micro this fall. In terms of work experience, I work with an agency facilitating care for end of life patients. I really want to get into the UCLA program but I will also be applying to CSULA, CSUN, CSUCI, CSUSM and USF, Western and
Anyway, I just wanted to create a thread for those applying same time as I so we can discuss. Fyi I will be attending the info session on July 26!
I really want to specialize though so I'm kind of bummed that the MECN doesn't offer a specialty, I would have to do a post-masters program.
How many classes can you have in progress when applying?
If a class is repeated, do they average the two or disregard the lower grade totally?
How much is the program in total?
Do MECN graduates make more in terms of salary than BSNs?

I am curious about this too... There's apparently limited graduate student housing. I wish we could talk to some current MECN students to see if living off-campus is a schlep. It just might be more affordable. What are your thoughts?
I live south of Wilshire right next to the bruin bus stop that comes by every 8-10mins and drops you off right in front of the school of nursing. It's convenient but can be pricey I pay $1800 for a one-bedroom which is considered inexpensive in ww. I do live in an old apt building though.
Congrats. What is the deadline that you guys were given to accept the admission. Atleast it can give me a time frame of when we on waitlist can hear back from them.
Hi everyone! I was accepted to the program yesterday as well! Congratulations on everyone who got accepted, and good luck to everyone who is still waiting :) Has anyone thought about housing options yet?
For us on waitlist, who know how long we have to wait to hear from them, or will it roll over to August. I'm confused whether to go ahead and register for epidemiology or just wait.
My email said to notify her by 2/24. At the info session, she specifically said if you are on the waitlist, take Epi. That was in August and she said they had just accepted #28 the day before, and had skipped a few people on the waitlist because when they called them to offer them admission, they hadn't completed Epi.
As for housing, I'll be commuting from Redondo Beach. It will be inconvenient but my husband's business is here and my kids go to school here
Hi all!
I wish I had known this thread existed sooner. I applied to APU's EL-MSN program and of course UCLA's MECN program. I found out I got into both (still feels surreal...) and now I'm trying to decide where to go. Do you guys plan on pursuing advance practice nursing after completing the MECN? In APU's program you automatically continue on after taking the NCLEX, and that's a big lure for me. Just wondering what everyone's pros/cons of UCLA are!
Thanks guys and good luck to everyone still waiting to hear from admissions!

It will take you longer to be in advanced practice if you choose UCLA. The specific reason I want to go to MECN is I do NOT want to be in advanced practice, but having a masters will make me feel like my education is complete. IF I wanted to be in advanced practice, I would choose a program like APU's where it's built in, but that's just me personally!
