UCLA MECN Fall 2011

Published

Hello,

I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.

Congrats to those on the waitlist who heard earlier this week!! I was on the WL and contacted today!!! (I was number 11, Lisa you're next if they haven't gotten to you already!) For those who are still waiting, I hope that space will become available for you too!

Julsie - I am in San Diego and will be relocating up to LA if you are looking for a possible roomie. Are you taking the epidemiology class over summer?

Also, no, I am not taking epidemiology over the summer at UCLA. Probably taking it in the bay area because we won't be ready to move that early. For bay area people, UC Berkeley extension is offering it this summer.

Congratulations to all WL applicants who are getting in! I started a new thread for those who are definitely going to UCLA. The more I prepare for this program, the more questions I have. I hope to see you there so we can be a resource for each other: https://allnurses.com/post-graduate-nursing/accepted-ucla-mecn-538685.html

Good luck! I'll probably see meet many of you in the summer! :D

Hi Everyone! I just got the call from Jessica! I got in off the wait list. I was number 12. So they are still calling people today! I can't wait to meet all of you very soon. I have lived in Santa Monica for 7 years and I am a UCLA alum so if anyone is moving here and has questions, I would be more than happy to help!!! Good luck to everyone on WL. I am sure there will be more calls today!!!

Congratulations! You surely deserved it. Really glad to see such hard working people get in :p

I am still on the waitlist "/ and it looks like they may be done around now for the time being. The rest of the people will probably find out once people begin dropping out once they hear back from other programs because at this point everyone who was accepted has replied.

Lets cross our fingers!

Hi Mimojadi,

Did you email UCLA to find out that all offers have been accepted?

thanks!

Congrats Lisa!!!

well looks like I'll be moving to North Carolina cause I got accepted to UNC Chapel Hill!!

GO HEELS!

congrats Lisa and ocennia!

Congrats everyone! I forget, is it 50 or 60 students in the MECN class?

For those who will be joining the class of '13, I made a Facebook fan page so we can all mingle and get to know one another!!

mikomay, I'm almost certain the cohort size is 60

Going to the info session helped a lot. They told us exactly what they want to be included in the statement of purpose:

*Why you want to be a nurse

*Clear statement of goals

*Reason for selecting UCLA

*Experience in healthcare setting or other relevant experiences and why the experience mattered

*Multicultural experiences such as economic, social, & educational

I included all of these in my statement of purpose. I met their GPA requirement but I didn't think my grades (even my healthcare experience) were competitive enough to get me in. I strongly believe that it was the statement of purpose that gave me that extra umph since UCLA does not have an interview process. Because MECN is a graduate program, it involves more writing and research than a regular RN program would. The SON wants to know that you'll be able to communicate your thoughts clearly on paper. It's probably one method in predicting your success in their program.

BTW, if there's a current MECN student lurking in the forums, do you mind sharing some insights for us? Maybe telling us what your typical schedule is like. If you're working full or part-time. What helped you succeed in the program? Any insight by current MECN students would be greatly appreciated!
