Can anyone shed any light on what's on the application? Cover letter, number of recc letters, etc? Thanks in advance!

UCLA MECN 2012
I second everything that Lisa said (Lisa -- this is Niko). Do not worry at all about getting sufficient clinical hours. For example, UCLA's immersion (some schools call it capstone, immersion...whatever) has the most clinical rotation hours in any school in southern California at 360 hours, and I think the second most is MSM with 90 hours (don't quote me on this...), so don't be concerned about not getting clinical rotations in the first quarter. I strongly agree with Lisa in that I actually prefer not having clinicals first because it allows us to really master the didactic part first and THEN integrate it into patient care.

UCLA MECN 2012
I'm a first year MECN now, congrats to everyone who got in! And to those who got waitlisted, there's still hope! I was waitlisted (8th) and got in. I know that this year they have 90 spots compared to last year's 60, and I also know that they took around 25 people (don't know the exact number) off the waitlist. Given that your cohort is larger, I would keep hope alive if you're 30 or below, but of course that's just a ballpark figure. And if you didn't get in, just keep your head up, keep working hard to enhance your application, and keep reapplying; I know a few people who had to reapply several times and sure enough, they're finally here. The program is awesome as I'm sure others have told you. You're going to be working HARD the whole time, so use summer to relax and spend time with your family and friends because they're going to be seeing very little of you. Be prepared for a huge emphasis on the CNL role. Everyone in the program is awesome, and we all have the "no MECN left behind" mentality -- we're always there to help one another so that we can perform our best. To anyone who's on the fence with UCLA, I highly recommend it. Good luck, hope to see some of you in the fall! Feel free to PM me with questions

Accepted to UCLA MECN 2011 Program?
If I'm able to take Epi in the spring, it'll be Epi 100, not Nursing 50, and its included in tuition because (at least as an undergrad), you pay per quarter, not per unit. The parking situation is worse than you can possibly imagine. I don't know if you've been to the West LA area before, but Westwood is as bad as it gets (anyone who tries to tell you that Hollywood/Santa Monica/etc is worse is LYING! :rotfl:). But, if you're a commuter, you can almost definitely get parking, especially as a grad student. My girlfriend commutes about a half hour and got parking no problem so if you're coming from OC you shouldn't have a problem getting approved. I don't think they award more points for employed or unemployed students. Also, if you somehow get rejected for parking, you can always buy a parking space online via Craigslist or something similar.

Accepted to UCLA MECN 2011 Program?
Hey ADEcstatic! I just got off the waitlist and I'm super stoked to be joining the program this upcoming fall, and to meet all the other MECN students during the orientation in July! As for Epi, I'd really rather not pay the 1200 bucks...I'm wrapping up my undergrad degree here at UCLA and I'm trying to sneak into an epidemiology class in Spring so I can avoid paying :-/ If there are any alternatives, like any CC, I'd really prefer that Congrats to everyone who got in, see you in a few months!

UCLA MECN Fall 2011
I was number 9 on the WL so they're making their way down. I was looking on the forums for last year and it took the number 10 WL candidate until APRIL to find out, so those who are high up on the WL have hope! Best of luck to all of those on the waitlist!

UCLA MECN Fall 2011
Just an FYI all, i just got the call from JH and just got picked up off the waitlist!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like phone calls are going out before emails see the rest of you in the fall!
-
UCLA MECN Fall 2011
I doubt that they'll send any emails to any WL candidates until after the 18th, when the statements of intent to register are due, but that's just my intuition. I also was checking on last years boards and it took WL candidates over a month to hear back so I think we're all going to be sitting tight for a while...

UCLA MECN Fall 2011
also reppin' men in nursing, goguemah! i wonder if it was a factor for your acceptance/my waitlist. i know that on the record, they're not supposed to give an advantage for it, but i heard lots of admissions committees do for diversity requirements and such

UCLA MECN Fall 2011
I'm on the WL and I got a small envelope with a single piece of paper. goguemah said (i think) that his acceptance included 5 pieces of paper but I dont know what type of envelope it came in

UCLA MECN Fall 2011
not sure, i imagine that we'll hear right around when the letters for intent to register are due. to those accepted: when do you need to let them know by? BTW: i asked someone at the school (the person who is mentioned in the waitlist letter) about how many WL candidates were accepted and the person told me 21 were taken, so there's hope for lots of us!
