UC Davis RN Residency July 2014 (Summer)
They asked me for references (synonymous with skills test) a few hours after my interview. I think it depends I'm the unit though. Some people got theirs a few days later. Haven't heard anything about the new grad being canceled although there may be less openings this time around. They hired a lot in Feb/April...my unit for instance may not be hiring because the manager has been hiring almost every round & she's thinking of fully orienting all current employees before hiring again.

HR screens the applications. From what I've heard, everything is a point-system, starting with the assessment questionnaire you had to fill out. HR selects candidates to forward to hiring departments. Not always the case, but most of the time, your preceptorship determines where your application will be forwarded. For example, if you completed your preceptorship in a med/surg unit, your application is most likely going to be forwarded to med/surg units. Your application may be forwarded to multiple units but that doesn't mean you'll get an interview with every single unit it was forwarded to. In fact, being forwarded does not guarantee an interview. The unit determines who to interview. Because the whole hiring process is point based, your interview is also rated. At least it seemed like it. I noticed my unit manager was writing a number next to each question in addition to jotting down notes.

Hi! I'm currently in the February '14 cohort. I didn't get a call for an interview until almost a month before the program started. From what I've gathered, people were getting called for an interview from early January to two weeks before the program started (02/25/14). It really depends on the unit. Everyone gets the same status, so you don't really know if you're selected for an interview or even an offer until you get the phone call. For now, sit tight, study for the NCLEX if you still have to take it, and pray/hope for the best. Good luck!! :)

Had my new hire paperwork completed last week. HR said they had 41 positions and counting. Some units were turning in their interview requests late (due to being busy and new grad hiring not being their priority). I think he said they're hoping to get all the new hire paperwork completed by this week, which makes sense considering program starts next Monday. Out of curiosity, is anyone else hired from SoCal? Please PM me!! I'm moving tomorrow and I'm already feeling homesick! It would be great to commiserate with someone! :)

They might be done already, @Bos12. I spoke with HR & he said he's been calling people with offers for the past 3 days. Sorry...

Unfortunately, your experience might disqualify you. A friend of mine was a school nurse for a few months & that disqualifies her. The best person to reach is the program nurse recruiter. His name & email is located at the bottom of the New Grad Residency Program page.

UC Davis RN Residency February 2014
Hey, all! I'm currently waiting for 3 references to complete their surveys. I know I don't have the guarantee that I'll be hired, but since I'll be moving from Los Angeles if I do get an offer, I'm trying to plan now. Is anyone else currently doing the reference check not from NorCal? Does anyone have any recommendation on where I should look for an apt or house to rent? My only criteria are (relatively) safe neighborhood, $600-$1100 rent, and within a 30-minute commute of UC Davis (hopefully not unrealistic! LOL). Does anyone know how much the new grad pays? Thank y'all in advance and good luck to everyone!

Sacramento RN wages??
Hi, @NickiLaughs! I tried sending you a PM but it says you've exceeded your PM quota. I'm hoping you can help me out. I recently interviewed for a new grad position at UC Davis and was informed I'm a top candidate...currently undergoing the reference check. I currently live in Los Angeles and the program starts on Feb. 24t so if offered a position, I have a lot of moving prep to do before! What areas would you recommend I look into? My budget is between $600-$1100 and I'm opened to renting a house or an apartment within a 30-minute commute to UC Davis? Is this a realistic expectation? Thank you in advance for your help!

Me, too, @mikij! After getting rejected from Stanford and never hearing back from UCSF, I was pretty sure UCD was also a no go. It was a nice surprise to get an interview. Let me know if your status changes as well! :) Good luck!!

Thanks, @mikij!! Crossing my fingers! Drove from LA last night to make sure I make it on time to my interview today. LOL. I'm looking forward to hearing more good news from everyone here!

I had my interview today and got the reference checks email a few hours later. It might depend on the unit you interviewed with and how far along they are in their interviews.

I heard that all units have the same set of questions. Does anyone know if this is true? Also, does anyone remember when the residency will begin and how many they're planning to hire? Good luck to everyone!
