UCLA MECN Fall 2011

Published

Hello,

I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.

For those of you who didn't get in, don't give up!!!! I also didn't get into UCLA when I applied last year, but only had one prereq completed. I reapplied this year, and am waitlisted, but am trying to stay positive about my chances of getting in.

I don't have a ton of healthcare experience and am switching into nursing from a COMPLETELY different industry - journalism. My undergrad GPA was 3.44, prereqs - 4.0, masters degree in journalism, 1.5 years volunteer experience in a hospital, leadership positions within different extracurricular groups. On one hand, I've been waitlisted at UCLA, probably didn't get into CSULA (didn't get an interview,) and got into Columbia. I am not trying to make anyone feel bad. I just want everyone to know that it's just so hard to figure out what schools are looking for in applicants. So don't beat yourself up for not getting into UCLA!! You'll end up in a great program, and more importantly, be fantastic nurses!

Congratulations to those who were accepted! And for those who were not, don't worry too much you will get into a nursing program and become a nurse. I wasn't accepted to UCLA and I have a pretty strong application (3.95 undergrad, all A's in my prereqs, health care volunteer experience). I was accepted to both UCSF (ranked no. 2 to UW) and USF, both excellent schools. So, who knows exactly what UCLA was looking for; I was told my essay was strong and right on point as to why I was ready for nursing. I actually started at USF (MSN-CNL Program) in January and love it! Their applicant pool was very competitive too with over 600 applicants for 30 spots. It was my first choice because it was a private school, started almost a year before the other two and I am currently living in SF. I couldn't be happier, my classmates are great and the faculty is amazing! I am definitely liking the private school atmosphere and yes it costs more, but after graduation and working as a nurse the loans will be paid off pretty quickly. So, the investment is worth it! For those of you that weren't accepted, you will find the right program for you! If you want to be a nurse, you will be. After all when you are going to get a job as a nurse the name of the school isn't as important as what you personally bring to the position (I have been told this by a CNO and Nursing Director in hospitals in both LA and SF).

Good luck to all with your future nursing endeavors!

Hey Rigs33 great to hear! USF is my first choice now, and it great to hear such great things about the program! I have been accepted to USD and Samuel Merritt so far but am really hoping to get into USF. I was waitlisted for the spring program so I have my fingers crossed that I'll get in the second time around. How is the simulation lab at USF? I went to an open house about a year ago but didn't get to see the sim lab... anything else that you would be willing to share about your experiences in the program would be great.. feel free to send me a PM if you have time (i know you must be really busy).

I am new to this thread, and I cannot even express how relieved I am I that I found it. I am currently on the waitlist for UCLA too and it is just comforting to read that other people are in the same boat! Congratulations to everyone that has already been accepted (to UCLA and other schools). Hopefully I get in and will be able to meet some of you!!

Has anyone asked the admissions people whether the wait list has dwindled any?

Just thought I'd throw it out. I asked but that part of my email was not answered....

I doubt that they'll send any emails to any WL candidates until after the 18th, when the statements of intent to register are due, but that's just my intuition. I also was checking on last years boards and it took WL candidates over a month to hear back so I think we're all going to be sitting tight for a while...

hey all,

i am on the waitlist too and i emailed jessica hudson to ask when the waitlisted people will here if they got in (if any do). she said that last year, they went up to number 21 so that is great news but who knows this year? here was her reply as far as when we might hear some news.

"the admitted applicants have until the 18th to accept their offers, so we will be sending out some waitlist offers on the 19th (if there are any). hope this helps!"

They've started down the wait list, because a spot opened up and I and got in!!! Jessica contacted me Monday to let me know. Best of luck to the rest of those waiting!

Is there anyone else currently living in the San Francisco Bay Area that will be relocating for this program?

What number were you on the WL?
