UBC 2021

Published

Hiya folks!

It's a bit early, but since the application period opens in a couple of months, I thought I'd start this topic to share support/encouraging words/info/nervousness.

Is anyone else already excited for next September?

Does anyone have a back up plan if you don't get in this term? Will you just keep applying, or look into a different career altogether?

I feel pretty confident about my application, but the number of other applicants are making me nervous. I don't think there is anything else that I could do to improve my application though. My GPA for my last 30 credits is a 4.1 on a 4.3 scale (if they don't consider that good then I don't know what to think). For my extracurriculars, I've been heavily involved (and continue to be) in a sport for the past 11 years. I've been volunteering at a facility for disabled children in a health care setting for the last couple of years, and I've been employed as a physiotherapy assistant for the last year. I'm also a published author. I connected all of this to leadership and nursing in my supplemental, which I feel pretty good about. I also thought my Casper went well.

I'm still nervous though! This is my last year to apply to UBC before my A+P courses are too old. Did anyone here submit the PLAR application because they took their A+P courses more than 4 years ago? How did that go?

I also applied to BCIT so I hope to get into at least one school. I can't really imagine doing another career at this point. Another career I explored was midwifery but the chances of getting into that is even slimmer as they only accept  20 something students. I like the variety of things you can do within the nursing field so if I get bored, I can switch to something else.

I am not entirely certain, but when I called the advisors, she explained that it is a process where they look at applications as they come in instead of piling them up until the deadline to compare applicants. Although this is not a first-come-first-served basis, I still feel like my chances of getting in are slim now because I still haven't handed in my application.. So I was wondering if you guys have any experience with this!

Hi friend! I think they do look at the applications as we submit them since it will take them too long to look at them after the deadline. However, they look at every single application as long as you meet the deadline. They will not give the people who submitted early a better chance.

Oh interesting. Last year, I applied on the very last day and I was placed low on the waitlist but I saw that someone with the same rank as me got placed very high on the waitlist and gotten in so maybe that had something to do with it! I am not sure how the process works.

Ah okay! That makes sense and thank you for responding! I will submit as soon as I can ?

Hi everyone!

I had just taken the CASPer on the 11th and it says on the website that it can take 2-3 weeks to send the result to your selected institutions! ? I hope the results come in time. Did anyone else just take their CASPer on Feb 11?

Approximately how much time did you guys spend on writing your supplemental application?

Hey! I took the CASPer that date too :)

I think as long as you did one of the tests that CASPer opened for UBC nursing it shouldn't matter when the results get sent in.

The last acceptable time slot for UBC was February 11, 5:00 PM (PST), which was the time slot that I chose ? This was stated in the official CASPer site as well as in an email sent by UBC. Don't worry about it ?

I started late December, still working on it.

Hi there! I also took on on Feb11th~ I think it is okay because otherwise the CASPer website wouldn't allow us to register for that date if they can't send it in on time.

For the section about 'additional learning and accomplishments', how many words/characters did you all write? There's no word limit but from the canvas BSN information centre I just noticed they said to limit your response to a maximum of 300 characters?? Do you think I'll get penalized for writing more than this?
