UBC 2021

Published

Hiya folks!

It's a bit early, but since the application period opens in a couple of months, I thought I'd start this topic to share support/encouraging words/info/nervousness.

Is anyone else already excited for next September?

That makes me really nervous, I wonder why the sudden surge. Normally they get about 500 applications?

Yes and feels like the wait will be forever!

Usually when there's a "recession" of some kind, people tend to go back to school, I think COVID-19 and the fact that a lot of people lost their jobs as a result have increased the amount of applications. Lots of people reconsidering what jobs are stable in the long run.

Yeah that's what I was speculating is that people think it's a stable job to have no matter what happens. I wonder about the quality of the applications though if it's something that was decided on a whim.

Hello everyone!

I'm taking the CASPer exam on February 11th, and was wondering if those of you who took it already can tell me if I should expect policy questions. I've been hearing conflicting things about the nursing CASPer exam, and am very confused... Some people say that there are only situational and personal questions while others say that there are indeed policy questions.
Policy questions are questions that ask you about policies (cell phone ban in school, laws, company policies, etc) and your opinion on them.

I'm not asking for the specific questions that were on the exam, but rather, what types of questions I should expect. Types of CASPer questions are widely discussed online, but they mostly pertain to med school. There are barely any sources for nursing school and I am so lost!

1. Should I expect policy questions?
2. Do you suggest that I read up on current issues? (<- like the time capsule question in the practice CASPer exam...)

The exam is freaking me out and I would appreciate any help!

The questions are very similar to practice questions, I also suggest looking up recent social justice causes and your point of view/ stance. I was non biased for the most part except for when it came to the social justice questions- I answered those truthfully and in a way that reflect my own morals.

Hey! ?May I ask when you took the test? Was it for this nursing admissions cycle?

I don't know that it would be the exact same exam taken by others this cycle so I would expect any type of casper question to be on the exam. Don't stress too much, it's very similar to the practice exam.

Hi everyone!

I am in the process of applying as well! I am definitely worried about my application after reading the previous posts and seeing that some people didn't get in despite amazing applications. If I calculated correctly based on UBCs GPA calculator my GPA is in the low 80% area. I have tons of experience with kids and about 2 years of retail experience. In terms of hospital-specific experience, I volunteered in the hospital gift shop for 3 years and I had a paid research assistant position at BCCH for a year so I was in contact with patients, surgeons, nurses, etc. every day (I even got to watch surgeries!!). Right now I work as a behaviour interventionist so I really hope that helps. I am also in the last semester of my BSc in Behavioural Neuroscience from SFU.

I am honestly kind of lost about what to write for the "Additional Learning and Accomplishments" section so any guidance would really be appreciated!

Thank you! And yes CASPer is done! It was definitely an interesting test.

Ahahah I'm glad I am not the only one having trouble with that section. Hopefully we can figure it out asap!

Does anyone know how the indigenous admissions process works?

At the bottom of the supplemental where we're asked to list course codes, did you just list your HAP courses, or your ENGL courses as well?

Just my HAP courses. I just emailed UBC Nursing, might have to email UBC admissions to let them know I have transferrable first year UBC ENGL courses. I also didn't see where I could find a form to apply for ENGL exemption, not sure if there's an actual form?

Afaik, there's a UBC Nursing Indigenous email you can contact or maybe it's just a UBC Indigenous email.

Hi All,

Is this anyone's second time applying? It's mine and I've beefed up my application this round. I'm wondering if anyone else is using the same personal statement in their supplemental application....?
