UBC 2022 Nursing

Published

Hey guys! I just wanted to start this post for anyone applying for the 2022 cycle for UBC nursing.  Just wondering where everyone is coming from and their experiences.

Hi Cakemaru,

Yesterday I received an Email from UBC stating that my application doesn't meet the program requirements. The reason is ". . . we do not consider any applied nor technical diploma credentials nor coursework as transferable to UBC."

I assume we're in the same boat ?

However, the BSN program website states the following:

"Q: How will my applied degree be evaluated?

Due to their vocational focus, applied degrees will be considered on case-by-case basis. The Admissions Office will evaluate the coursework completed in the applied degree on a course-by-course basis to ensure that the 48-transferable credit requirement is met".

https://nursing.ubc.ca/undergraduate-learning/faq

This somewhat contradicts their reason that they do not consider applied degrees. I reached out to them to clarify this and we'll see... could be I'm misunderstanding something. So if there is a reasonable explanation, then I will just accept it; however, if it turns out that the program requirement information on the BSN website is wrong, I will consider appealing the decision based on inaccurate published information.

At the same time I am aware, that appealing a decision may take several weeks; consequently, by the time a decision on the appeal is made, all seats are gone ?

If they don't accept applied degrees to begin with, they should clearly state that, because applicants spend a significant amount of time and money that could otherwise be invested into meeting another institution's program requirements.

Anyways, just wanted to let you know what's going on on my end.

Hope you're doing well and wish everyone the best of luck! ?

So sorry, Joolea and Cakemaru! ?  That must be so frustrating, all the work and components of the application is a big effort and a lot of time & energy.  I wish you both luck with other schools, and Joolea do keep us all posted with what you find out!❣️  One day we may all meet at some hospital working, or at some nursing event, and we will all laugh about how crazy we were during the application process!  #goals ?

You think it could possibly be TOMORROW???  ??

I thought the soonest would be next Friday!

I am getting so anxious too- I try to reassure myself, if I don't get in this time, I can always try again, and I can always try applying to BCIT for January (which I'm sure would be great too!)  Does UBC for sure send out an email?  I think I've read in previous years' forums that some people found out on SSC before they got an email.  Wishing everyone luck ?

I hope it’s tomorrow ??. I can’t wait any longer. Is the BCIT program also advanced?

Wishful thinking maybe? But they closed the applications a whole month earlier than last year, so maybe it would have provided them more time for evaluations? if not, next Friday for sure! The wait is too intense!

I believe BCIT is 3-years long - which in a way would be okay, summers off I think.  Plus BCIT has a very good reputation for the nursing program.  I think it's very competitive entry as well though!

I know what you mean, the waiting and not knowing, wondering, dreaming, alternating daily between optimistically hopeful and pessimistically thinking of the small odds of acceptance - ?agony!

Ooh that IS interesting!  I didn't know that!  Hopefully you are right, tomorrow would be nice! ?  But yeah by next Friday I think we should find out! *hopefully* ?

It's like Schrodinger's cat right now though, as of this moment we are simultaneously accepted and not accepted, LOL! ?

Regardless of whether or not we receive results tomorrow, I hope we all get in because you all seem like wonderful people ❤️!

Man, it seems like yesterday when I started doing the application back in December/January, and complaining that I would have to wait until April to find out if I got in or not. Now it's less than a week away and I'm more nervous than ever.

Manifesting acceptances for all of us ?

Anyone else just obsessively checking their email, junk mail, and SSC like every hour

LOL I have terrible patience

I am in the same boat! It feels really weird! This whole time I've felt like it has been such a tough wait, but now that it is really happening, I am so so scared.

Im not even in the program (hopefully soon)

We wish you success In your Nursing program!

I am currently In the UBC BSN program. I heard back on April 30th last year, it was a Friday. I’m assuming based on this probably you will be hearing back on the 29th or Monday May 2nd; not quite sure though because your cohort will have 150 students and maybe they need more time to process the applications as each year the number keeps increasing. I wish you all the best; and if you are waitlisted last year 33 people got off the waitlist and I think it was around the same number the year before. See you all at orientations in August.
