Heads up people who are still finishing their HAP pre-requisite, I emailed the nursing advisor and they do NOT have to be done by April 30th, final transcripts just have to be sent by June 9th, meaning you just need to have your final grades before then!

IDK if anyone else is in TRU Biol 1593, 1693 RN but that gives a lot more time!

wait what no way! thank you for sharing this info!!

Hi! I'm sorry you didn't get a spot ? if you are comfortable asking, would you mind answering you were denied? Was it because of missing pre-req, below the grade cut-off, etc.?

Had everything, they didn't like my degree from a community college they said it's an applied degree, and nowhere on the application form does it say that. so yeh I was bummed...but I'm the waitlist for VCC

Hi guys! I graduated from ubc dental hygiene few years ago and would like to switch career at this point, I took biol 1593+1693 from TRU and finished both courses within 3mon. this year, 1593 (Jan - mid Feb) 1693 (Mar - mid April). While maintaining a full time job with these courses were definitely tough, but I was able to get through them and also did pretty well on 1593 (for 1693 I’m still waiting for my final grade :)) If you have any questions or would like me to share some of my experiences with the course content/final/time management you are welcomed to reply this thread and I’m willing to help out if any of you are struggling! I had both courses with Percy and if you also had him I might be helpful in terms of questions. Good luck to all of you during this busy season of the year and I wish everybody could receive a desired offer in the end of the month<33

Hi Cakemaru,

Yesterday I received an Email from UBC stating that my application doesn't meet the program requirements. The reason is ". . . we do not consider any applied nor technical diploma credentials nor coursework as transferable to UBC."

I assume we're in the same boat ?

However, the BSN program website states the following:

"Q: How will my applied degree be evaluated?

Due to their vocational focus, applied degrees will be considered on case-by-case basis. The Admissions Office will evaluate the coursework completed in the applied degree on a course-by-course basis to ensure that the 48-transferable credit requirement is met".

https://nursing.ubc.ca/undergraduate-learning/faq

This somewhat contradicts their reason that they do not consider applied degrees. I reached out to them to clarify this and we'll see... could be I'm misunderstanding something. So if there is a reasonable explanation, then I will just accept it; however, if it turns out that the program requirement information on the BSN website is wrong, I will consider appealing the decision based on inaccurate published information.

At the same time I am aware, that appealing a decision may take several weeks; consequently, by the time a decision on the appeal is made, all seats are gone ?

If they don't accept applied degrees to begin with, they should clearly state that, because applicants spend a significant amount of time and money that could otherwise be invested into meeting another institution's program requirements.

Anyways, just wanted to let you know what's going on on my end.

Hope you're doing well and wish everyone the best of luck! ?

Specializes in nursing.

So the decision is either tomorrow or the week after. I am getting very anxious to know, I am sure everyone else is as well! I want to go UBC so much!!

Agreed, sorry you are going through this too, maybe you asked to be considered for the UBCO program? Hopefully, you get an answer to this!

You think it could possibly be TOMORROW???  ??

I thought the soonest would be next Friday!

I am getting so anxious too- I try to reassure myself, if I don't get in this time, I can always try again, and I can always try applying to BCIT for January (which I'm sure would be great too!)  Does UBC for sure send out an email?  I think I've read in previous years' forums that some people found out on SSC before they got an email.  Wishing everyone luck ?
