Hi all,
I was just wondering if anybody is also applying to the UBC Nursing program this year for the 2009 intake...and also, for those that are in the program, or have graduated from the program, would you kindly please tell me what the program is like, as well as your admission average (based on the 30 credits that UBC Nursing looks at) and your supplemental application...to better prep myself for the application process.
thanks in advance.
no problem, if you do take it at douglas be prepared to fight early for your spot... on September 4th, students who are pre-nursing classified get to register for the left over spots, its crazy, my best bet would be to take it the equivalant at Thompson Rivers... its online and might be less hassle!
The douglas class is located out in Poco. at the David Lam campus.
"Time" would be the credit value of the course...so let me give you an example so that it's clear what I mean =)
You took 5 classes, and your mark and credit value of each course is as follows:
Course 1 - 3 credits, 90%
Course 2 - 6 credits, 80%
Course 3 - 2 credits, 75%
Course 4 - 1 credit, 85%
Course 5 - 3 credits, 68%
To calculate your overall GPA:
(90*3)+(80*6)+(75*2)+(85*1)+(68*3)/(3+6+2+1+3)
= 84.9%...which is about 3.90-3.95 on UBC's 4.33 scale.
Hope that helps
Hey Orchid1218,
Below is a link to the GPA Conversion chart that is used for all universities in Canada; you will see that UBC is under Column #3. On the right hand side, there are a few columns of letter grades used by other universities. From this, you can estimate your percentage/GPA equivalent for UBC.

Since colleges aren't listed on there, you can probably ask the college/instructors for further clarification.
Did everyone have a chance to read through the Orientation Week schedule? I'm feeling even more excited & anxious than before... and pretty bummed that I'll be missing the first day. Seems like lots of useful topics are being covered on Tuesday
On another note, it's nice to see that there will be attempts made to place us in clinical rotations close to where we live!
It was in the e-mail that accompanied the Orientation Week schedule. They asked us to provide some information for the Nursing Bluebook, and,
I suppose it doesn't say specifically that it'll be for placing you in a hospital close to where you live, but I can't think of any other usage than knowing our proximity to hospitals in the Lower Mainland. Perhaps it's my wishful thinking, considering it takes me 2 hours of commuting to get to UBC.2) Vancouver address including postal code which will help with selecting location of initial clinical placements.
On another note, they also said:
Many of you may know your learning style and have already completed a Learning Styles Inventory. Please complete/review your learning style and bring that information with you for Friday morning.
Where do we complete a Learning Styles Inventory review? Is it the link that's attached at the end? If so, that doesn't work for me...

You need to take them in the correct pairs... at DOuglas it is 1103+1203 for AP Biology... or 1109/1209.... by only taking 1103 and 1109 they are the same first level of the class...
1103 is for nursing, while 1109 is for another health science program.
