Hi all,
I was just wondering if anybody is also applying to the UBC Nursing program this year for the 2009 intake...and also, for those that are in the program, or have graduated from the program, would you kindly please tell me what the program is like, as well as your admission average (based on the 30 credits that UBC Nursing looks at) and your supplemental application...to better prep myself for the application process.
thanks in advance.
Lol! I just had my immunization review last week. Commuting TWICE a day in that weather last week? @#$*^&. Never again. But yeah, if you have your family doctor fill out that form first and have any lab test results ready, then the immunization review goes by pretty quickly. Then you walk out and think, "wait, I paid $150 for that?" Have fun with yours, haha.
(They didn't ask me to pay. I assume we pay the Faculty at a later date or something...)
I've also been on the lookout for the perfect pair of shoes and I have yet to hear anything bad about SAS, they actually specialize in nursing shoes.
Take a look at this link: http://www.sasshoes.com/main/view_styles.php?catid=2&prodid=54
I'm from Ottawa and they sell them in quite a few stores here and I've tried some on and they're super comfy! Not very fasionable, but that's not very important, right? They're quite pricey, but comfort is really important so worth the splurge.
The way I understood the shoe critera on the handout was that IF they're running shoes (like nike's, addidas, etc) then they have to be made of leather..and not mesh or anything unprofessional looking.
As for scrubs, I ordered mine last weekend and they arrived this week. :) I ordered the XXS (both pants and tops) and found that the pants fit a bit small, so I'll probably be returning them for the XS. Just thought I'd share that info!
I also wear a 0/2 in AE jeans but a 26-27 in other jeans, so I don't really know what to suggest. They aren't super tight, but I felt that they weren't very professional looking, and when I bend or squat down they don't offer quite enough coverage, i think i just have a big bum! haha
Let me know if you come across any other good footwear..
:)
In reply to Browning20's question about shoes:
I attend BCIT, but I have a pair of all white leather nursing shoes by Spring Step that I have worn for the past three years in school that sound like they fit UBC shoe requirements. Closed toe, closed heel, nice soles. I got them for $60 on sale at Image Care Uniforms. There is a location on Broadway and another in New Westminster, close to RCH.
734 West Broadway
442 East Columbia Street
If you are searching the internet, also try typing in "duty shoes" - that may give you a more comprehensive list.
Hope that helps.
Hi Everyone,
I am new here and have some questions want to ask about UBC Nursing program... Hope you guys could help me out.
For the prerequisites Human Anatomy and Physiology, I just wonder if I could take 1 of each courses instead of 2 levels of a same course?
For example:
Douglas BIOL 1103 and BIOL 1109 (stead of BIOL 1103+1203 or BIOL 1109+1209)
Langara BIOL 1190 and HKIN 1190 (stead of BIOL 1190+1191 or HKIN 1190+1191)
and is UBC only have 1 admission for each year?
MANY MANY MANY THANKSSSSS!!

Hi Orchid1218,
I'm not sure how many changes you can make to UBC Nursing's list of equivalent Biology courses. To be sure, I'd suggest that you contact [email protected].
And yes, I believe the intake is once-a-year, in September. Number of students will be increased to 120 per year (it was reduced to 90 for September 2009).
Hi browning 20,
Thank you sooo much to reply my question!! I really appreciate it!!
I actually have sent an email to the student adviser about it, but I haven't got her feedback yet... and I really hope that I could take 2 different courses instead of 1 but in 2 levels so that I can get the marks in time to apply the Jan 2010 program. If you have heard anything else about it, pls pls pls let me know.
many thanks!!!

Yeah, that's confusing! And what about white shoes with the ever-so-slight gray piping along the sides? Yikes, I hope we don't need the shoes in our labs too, otherwise we'd need them by September, not October like I assumed.
On a side note, anyone here in Group 5?
