Hi all,
I was just wondering if anybody is also applying to the UBC Nursing program this year for the 2009 intake...and also, for those that are in the program, or have graduated from the program, would you kindly please tell me what the program is like, as well as your admission average (based on the 30 credits that UBC Nursing looks at) and your supplemental application...to better prep myself for the application process.
thanks in advance.
Hey lazz1,
I found the first term schedule on http://www.nursing.ubc.ca/Current_Students/Documents/Sep2009/Term%201%20-%20Sept%202009.pdf
It shows clinicals starting on October 26, and it's got whole days (8am-6pm) marked as clinical practice. I suppose it can vary though, since it can change based on instructor availabilities; we might have to do them on Fridays or weekends, one of the handouts said.
And for the orientation, I'm part of the UBC Orientation team, and we had no part in planning Nursing's Orientation. The only part that is "integrated" is the Main Event Carnival that we are all encouraged to attend at the end of Tuesday. The Orientation Week sounds packed as well!
So has anyone gotten all the textbooks? How much was it? It is an incredibly long list of books...
I got everything but the Elsevier package--I asked the guy behind the counter at the Health Science Department, and he said that they're still negotiating with the company as to how shipping will work...he said that the bookstore expects the packages to be shipped by the end of next week, so hopefully it will be ready to be bought by the time school starts. Oh, and, apparently the bundle is coming in two boxes weighing 80 pounds each...so bring a car when you go buy it :)
As for Imagine...I heard that Imagine UBC is now extended to ALL undergrad classes...so nobody has classes on the first day. From the Orientation package I received from Nursing, the Nursing Orientation is a lot different than the Imagine UBC day one.
Can you believe that in 10 days, we'll all be official UBC Nursing students?
Hey lazz1,
I was not asked to pay the $150 when I went in for my immunization review... and I have no idea when we have to pay it.
The immunization review goes by fairly quickly, especially if your family doctor already filled out the form. The TB skin test... well, that wasn't pretty. The red bump on mine took a month to fully go away. Have fun!

Hi Browning20,
Where did you learn that the clinicals runs from 8-6? Is that starting first term?
I bought NurseMates Dove shoes. They are amazing! So comfortable and looks pretty nice. Google them and read the reviews. I have higher than normal arches so I just bought extra arch supports and they are super. :)
Does anyone know if our Nursing school orientation is different than the first year Imagine Day Orientation? I'm assuming it is...
bye!
