Hi everyone,
I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!
Marina.

I submitted my application 3 days ago. All of my (8) transcripts were recieved when I submitted. Mine was verified as of today.
Now we wait. Hoping we hear back by mid-January.

Thank you for your question. I finished at the Phx campus. I would pick this campus again because it is newer than Tucson. I’m not sure I would have tried another program since I already lived in Phx and this was the only Mepn in the state; now ASU offers one, as well. Every program will have its challenges, it’s all about how you handle yourself. Remain professional and you should be just fine. Best of luck
Hi! Thanks for sharing more info. I live in Phoenix and am also applying to that campus. I was wondering how it has been finding employment? Do you feel the MEPN degree is equivalent to a BSN when looking for a job?

Finding a job with a MEPN degree from UA was extremely easy for myself as well as for other grads. Some of us even got offers as we were completing our rotations. Others were hired before graduating, contingent upon passing the nclex of course. UA is respected here in AZ. Not so sure about other states. A MEPN degree is higher than a BSN and would help you tremendously if you want to continue your education in a DNP program, for example. Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the info! I was wondering, on your actual diploma/degree - is it a Masters of Science in Nursing? What is the actual "degree" called? Just curious. I have been looking at a lot of NP programs and most (not all, of course) seem to have MSN, that specifically you need an MSN (or BSN for some if applying to master's programs) to apply.
I was thinking of reaching out to some of them, if I can find out what the title of the degree is you graduate with, to see if that'd be accepted. My guess is it won't be an issue if they can see you had whatever specific X, Y, & Z courses they require - and that you do have an MS concentration specifically in nursing.

I have been wondering the same thing! I am looking at the DNP program at the UA so I assume it won’t be an issue but it def makes things confusing since we won’t have a BSN but’s it’s not really a MSN either. ??♀️

Yeah, at UA it won't be an issue, which makes sense since it's their MEPN program. I asked them specifically during a virtual fair Q&A thing a few months ago. But, for those of us who end up in another state... just I would like to try to be sure before I take out a lot of money in loans to complete the program! Of course, assuming I'm accepted in the first place! I've heard such great things about UA nursing department in general, so I'd really love to go if I am accepted and know I have what I need to continue my education in the future, if that's where life takes me.

So.. I found this (https://www.slideshare.net/UANursing/ua-college-of-nursing-application-workshop) , it's a bit dated (from 2014?), but for the degree type I think it's still relevant. Specifically, this slide, confirming it is not an MSN ?
I agree that it's a bit confusing as to whether or not the UofA MEPN program provides an MSN degree upon graduation. I have included a screenshot of an email I received from an advisor who told me that the MEPN program provides a Masters Degree in Nursing. It is not a generic Masters Degree, and it is not a degree less qualified than a BSN. I hope this helps. I suggested that the UofA MEPN program website more clearly and specifically state that an MSN will be rewarded upon completion, but I haven't seen any updates to that effect.

Thank you for sharing! Now I might be even slightly more confused, lol. Since their power point slides I found said you get a Masters of Science with an "emphasis" in nursing, and they go out of their way to say it is NOT an MSN. Sigh... this screen shot, however, is a little reassuring. Though I'm still confused how a "Master of Sciences in Nursing" is not an MSN, which stands for Masters of Science in Nursing?
..so confusing.
However, I do have a friend who did the MEPN at UA, and her title in her professional profile is: "MS RN"
So she's a nurse with a master's, but it's not listed as MSN, which I would imagine people with that degree would use in their titles...*
*In fact, I just looked up how to cite your nursing title, and if you have an MSN, you would list that in your title.
UofA really needs to clarify on their website, considering that quite a few people are wanting to know. I agree that this is still confusing-I was hoping that my email would provide closure, but now, not so sure...
Has anyone done a comparison of the MEPN curriculum with a known MSN program? If the classes are essentially the same, shouldn't both programs yield an MSN?
