Hi everyone,
I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!
Marina.
@amgilbert I’m thinking maybe you didn’t “place the order” for the immunization tracker as explained in Jason’s initial email for setting up the account? If you didn’t do that, you wouldn’t see where everything needs to be uploaded. Could that be it?
I have also been curious how COVID will affect starting school in such a short amount of time. I live in the Bay Area, and locally many schools, companies, and organizations have shut down and moved things online or entirely rescheduled even to June. I know it is happening all over the US, but I do not know the extent of Arizona's cases or the projection of the spread there. The prediction in my area (based on currently working in a doctor's office and research from the CDC and WHO) is that the next month or longer will be intense in healthcare as we try to navigate the uncertainty of the spread of this virus. Hopefully, UofA will soon come out with information on it so that we can be prepared for the possibility of delay or something of that sort if that is found to be absolutely necessary!
@amgilbert I had trouble getting the to do list for the cohort too. Email Jason and ask him for the order code for the to do list for immunisations andyou add this order to your account and then you'll have access to the to do list.
Hope this helps!
Also I've been wondering about the effects of COVID and how long they'll carry on too. I feel like by the time May rolls around though most of the restrictions and mandates will have been rolled back. Unless it worsens dramatically I think things will mostly be back to normal.
They are just starting widespread testing here in Arizona today so the next couple of weeks should give us a more accurate number of cases we’re dealing with. The governor declared a state of emergency. May seems pretty close so I doubt things will have gotten better by then. I’d think that will be when things will be at their worst. At least they have time to decide what they’re gonna do with us. Maybe they’ll need us to help with the shortage of healthcare workers that could happen when they’re sick and the hospitals are overloaded. If you read about what’s happening in Italy it’s some pretty scary stuff. They’re having to decide who lives and who dies bc there isn’t enough ventilators and equipment for those that need it.

I completely agree! I work closely with a doctor who's cousin is an internal medicine doctor in Italy right now where things are really intense... He wrote an email to her over the weekend detailing the catastrophe the virus has caused locally and nationwide in Italy... stating "it is worse than you can even imagine, like a war zone." My office is taking precautions, but still the healthcare in the US is not at all prepared for the possibility of what looms in the near future. Since taking precautions we have already had cases of COVID closing in on our patients, putting the staff and other patients at risk. It is so much to take in everyday, but I hope everyone is educating themselves so they can take proper measures to keep themselves, family, friends, neighbors, and strangers as safe as possible!

@amgilbert hi! What does your CB profile look like? There should be an option to click “To Do List” and that is where all the individual sections are located.
