UA MEPN 2020

U.S.A. Arizona

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!

Marina.

I do not believe they have sent out a link quite yet.

I just contacted the graduate college about UAccess learning. I told them that I was unable to access UAcces learning because my status is admit rather than student. The graduate school looked into the issue and told me that our class should be matriculated on March 28th. After this we should have access to learning. I was told the students that have been successful accessing learning are likely current/previous students of the University and therefore have access to this feature.

Hope this helps!

Quick question! Do I need TWO separate TB skin test or is just 1 okay?

I had the same question today and knew I had seen a requirement for two somewhere... So the grad school health requirements are "two separate tb skin tests within 6 months of each other and at least 1 week apart" Such a pain but I am going to have two done just to be on the safe side!

I just completed this requirement but did not want to complete the 2-step so I did a QuantiFERON®-TB Gold test instead. This is a simple blood draw that is good for a year and you do not have to go back to the doctor for.

I just got my BLS provider CPR certification from American Heart Association.
I paid $50 for the training. When I showed up, they said I needed a providers manual booklet and that I could purchase it for an additional $20 or reschedule my training. Well, I was already there, so I bought the book.

Last time I got trained (for the same thing), I did NOT need the book for the training. The trainer said the purchase was going towards funding research and others doing the ACLs showed up with manuals.

Did anyone else need to purchase the training manual?

Just a heads up, if you are getting your CPR cert, you may need the booklet to get in the door. (Or I may just have been forced to purchase a manual that I didn't need.)

Speaking of BLS provider CPR training, my card was rejected in CastleBranch. It didn't really say why, but my guess is because it's backed by ASHI instead of the AHA or Red Cross. Anyone else have the same issue? I've taken CPR three times in the last year, just not with the AHA or Red Cross, and the thought of having to pay $50+ for another CPR training (in addition to all the fees for everything else) is kind of infuriating...

It sucks... but hospitals require AHA and Red Cross. This is because they know that people are being taught the required skills through these programs. You can email an advisor and ask (they are awesome at responding) but my guess is they won't accept it.

I did not have to purchase a manual as of December. I get mine done through my employer and we use Heart Savers.

@Amanda Gold you don't need the book for the CPR training. It's too bad they made you buy it.

I looked at two different BLS classes in Tucson and they both required I purchase the book. Then when I arrived to class they verified it was the most recent version.

Also, while I am working on the Castle Branch documents...
My understanding is that it's not mandatory to get the flu shots since we will start clinicals probably around June and not during flu season, which is Aug-April. Also, that it's not mandatory to upload the "Student Consent Form for Clinical Placements Outside of Usual School Hours." Right?
Just confirming since they take a couple days to verify.
Thanks in advance!

I had a question regarding the CB uploads... If everything you have submitted is "approved" then that means you are okay for that requirement correct? I just wanted to make sure my proof of insurance is okay since I am out of state, I still have any type of coverage in AZ I just was not sure if this is something I need to have further evaluated since it was approved from my insurance card upload
