UA MEPN 2020

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!

Marina.

First you need to "place an order" as directed in the instructional email. When I log in, it automatically directs me to "my CB." Here, you should be able to see this tab on your left handside as mentioned earlier. You can upload the documents under the to do list. (This should look like the image above).

You should use your school email to register.
Don't forget to order your drug test as well. (so you will need to place two orders - one for document upload and one for the drug tests- both with the same log in).

Finally, the flu shot is not required since it's not flu season right now. But the other from about outside of usual hours is, FYI.
They will keep us updated regarding the flu requirements if anything. Hope this helps! ?

@amgilbert hi! What does your CB profile look like? There should be an option to click “To Do List” and that is where all the individual sections are located.

Thanks for the help!

This helped a lot! I placed the order for my drug test, but I didn't place an order for my immunizations. I've got them uploaded now! Thank you!

Thanks for the help! Ya, initially my CB profile just had my order for the drug test, but I clicked around and got the immunizations now too! Thank you!

@amgilbert I’m thinking maybe you didn’t “place the order” for the immunization tracker as explained in Jason’s initial email for setting up the account? If you didn’t do that, you wouldn’t see where everything needs to be uploaded. Could that be it?

This was definitely it. Thank you!

Is anyone else concerned about how Covid-19 could affect the program? I am reading that some nursing students in CA are being held up to graduate because hospitals are cancelling clinical rotations. I will be coming from out of state and am very hesitant to make a move to AZ in the coming weeks, if tighter regulations cause a hold up in the program.

Does anyone else feel this way? Can any current students give feedback to how their cohort is being handled?

Well it’s hard to tell what the future holds, but I do know that current BSN students at the U of A have had their clinical cancelled this semester, not by the school but by the location .

I have heard by a current mepn student that they are doing online classes and that their current clinical hasn’t been cancelled bc they are allowing students but they expect the clinicals at the hospitals to quickly be stopped due to the hospitals not allowing students at this time so I can see how this could affect their graduation requirements. Thankfully I am local so I don’t have to worry about moving but if I weren’t I would definitely be contacting the CON advisors and asking for some direction since it is getting closer and you need to know what the plan is although I don’t expect they will know for at least another month or so since things are literally changing by the minute right now. Thankfully we do have 2 months for things to hopefully settle down some so hopefully we can start on time but maybe if they pushed our start date back a little it wouldn’t be so bad given the current state of the world. Although at the same time you would think they’d be desperately wanting nurses since there was already a shortage to begin with now the healthcare system is expected to be overloaded.... I don’t know what they’re going to do ?

I have the same thoughts. Healthcare workers are going to be desperately needed, but they also need to minimize the spread of disease. Maybe they push back the start date to August?

Yep it will be interesting to see what they do.... I feel for those coming from out of town who need to know ASAP so they can plan accordingly ?

I am currently in the Bay Area and my county has officially put out statements saying no social gatherings with 10 or more people... I know it is getting very serious where I am, and I am concerned about moving at this time.

I hope that the CON gives us an idea of what will happen in the near future because it is hard to work full-time in healthcare right now, plan for a move, get all the requirements done, and figure out school loans etc. Even if the prediction is that we still start classes in May but clinicals are postponed that would at least give an idea of what stage of planning we need to be in now. Our clinicals are not supposed to start until June I thought so maybe that is enough time for things to smooth over enough to the point that the program can stay on track...

I am trying to stay hopeful, but it is hard! Anyone in AZ please post updates on the status of the COVID situation across your state /specifically Phoenix & Tucson.. Hoping everyone stays healthy and bonded because now is the time to really rely on one another! Thanks all for your input

I feel you! I am coming from out of town as well and I am holding off from signing the apartment lease. I don’t know how long the apartment complex is willing to hold it for me, without me signing the lease... but that’s the least of my worries. I am praying things return back to normal soon.

Let’s try to stay grounded during this unprecedented situation - meditation, yoga, EFT (emotional freedom technique), staying active, all very helpful. Stay safe guys ?

Hi again!

I was wondering if anyone was able to get ahold of anyone at CON/UA to inquire about the status of our start date/cb requirements etc. I am located in a county on full lock down, the obgyn office I work for is completely closed and we are not to leave our houses for anything but absolute necessities such as the grocery store until April 7th... I do not know how I am going to get my drug test done and second tb test due to the current status of the healthcare system and labs. Unless something drastically changes by April 7th I think I am going to have a difficult time meeting some requirements... Anyone have a phone number or email that they get responses to? I have tried contacting people and have not received any replies...

Thank you!

I wouldn’t stress about it. Pretty sure they are going to change our start date and def will allow for an extension for requirements since obviously this is out of everyone’s control. I imagine by the end of this week we too will be on full lockdown. Today tucson and phx mayors announced all places people gather such as restaurants bars gyms etc are to close at 8pm tonight and stay closed. This is something we have never seen before and I’m sure the college is trying to figure it out but right now they are probably more worried about how to get the current mepn class finished up since I’m sure their clinicals are getting cancelled not to mention they’re having to do everything online which means no skills labs. Praying for our country and the world right now.
