UA MEPN 2020

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!

No link to the webinar yet but I did receive the all-online email. How does everyone feel about it being 100% online? I was looking forward to starting study groups to help with the amount of studying we will have to do....

I will be moving to Phoenix mid-June if anyone would like to get together before our in-person start date.

We could always do zoom study groups?

Yeah, I was looking forward to studying in person too. Just moved closer to Phx.

Good idea! I'm down for zoom meets too. :)

I'm up for zoom study sessions! Is everyone still moving at the times they originally thought? Hopefully because of all this they won't increase tuition rates because we'll be in an economic downturn.

A few quick questions!

I tried logging on to UAccess again since it is after March 28th... anyone else still having this problem?

Also, I have been patiently waiting for my financial aid packet to come in since I completed my FASFA over a month ago, but I have not received anything yet. I do not have any "holds" on my account and completed the 'student action required' dropdown under the financial aid section in my UA student access. Also, I checked my UAccess and for both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 years it says my FASFA was received, no further action required, but under awards, it says "none". I emailed the financial aid office a detailed questions about when it should come in and the answer was confusing. It said, "As you have been recently admitted for Summer of 2020, your financial aid awards should be packaged with the rest of our current students for the Summer session on May. Look on your account in case we ask for additional information" This was very generic and did not answer my question of when I will receive it. Does everyone else have their financial aid packets? Or do they not come in until May? It just concerns me as I am moving in from out of state and will need to know how much money I am receiving for living purposes, etc.

Thank you!

I haven’t received anything yet either.

I’m hoping this causes them to lower tuition... and hoping the govt will start doing some serious loan forgiveness for nurses with all that is going on. ?‍♀️

I know I hope so too regarding tuition! Also I’ve talked to financial aid about this and they said they can’t make a package until tuition rates are confirmed and we’ve registered for our classes. But I’m in the same boat I’m moving and I have no idea how much my living expenses will be which makes it hard to find a place to live etc.

Hey all! Excited to meet my fellow classmates...hopefully sometime later this Summer.

I know a lot of you share the same concern about the tuition hike as I do. I hope you all will reach out and share your concerns, and ask if they would reconsider given the current situation. An extra 4k for in state and 15k for out of state students is very significant! We are in an economic crisis and with the demand for quality health care professionals greater than ever, I would hope they would make it less of a financial burden for students to enter the field.

The board is meeting on April 2nd to vote on the tuition hike, so let's try to get our concerns in front of them before that date.

Stay well, all!

I haven't received any info about financial aid, and I also completed my application about 4 weeks ago.

Please email your pleads to not raise tuition to [email protected]

I am hoping that if enough of us voice our concerns, given the current situation, they will reconsider.

Thank you for posting the email address! I just sent an email with my concerns. What a time to be starting nursing school, right?

My concern with online only courses is the fact that I have 2 kids. I cannot get work done while we are all home together. I am really hoping that the reality of the situation is very different mid May and if we do have online classes, we/I am able to leave the house to do my work.

Not to mention what happens if we get sick after school starts? My understanding is the illness can last for several weeks... and then our family will be sick...lots to think about but honestly am glad we aren’t out there on the front lines right now. The stories I’ve been hearing about lack of supplies/Ppe is pretty scary.

@TCimino I am in a similar situation with two little ones and was originally counting on daycare for them. With the current situation I don’t know if daycares will be back open in time or even safe to take them to if they are. I’m hoping all will work out!
