Aaaaalriiighty! With the large volume of nursing students who applied for TWU this Fall semester and the very few amount of drop outs, it's time to start up the Spring 2017 applicants forum topic!! I'm one of the waitlisters who didn't make it into the Fall 2016 Dallas nursing program, but definitely had competitive scores.
For reference I had a GPA of 3.86 (3.68 nursing core) and a TEAS score of an 87 (top 3%). That left me with a total of 47.7 points (43.83 for Spring 2017, but I'll explain).
Now keep in mind that this semester TWU will no longer be looking at cumulative GPAs, but only the nursing core GPA. Other than that, the change in the Program Materials on the Nursing CAS application, and that you don't need to send a transcript to NursingCAS, there have been no major changes to note for the Spring 2017 semester.
Also, to those who either scored less than me or have a lower GPA don't let that discourage you. Last application cycle was a weird one with close to triple the amount of Honor's students (HS=guaranteed acceptance) and an unusually low declination return. Last Spring, the lowest accepted student had about 43.1 points. Which equates to about a 3.6 GPA and an 82-85 TEAS. If you can hit that ballpark you're in a good spot. Also, since there was such a high percentage of HS for Fall 2016 it's likely that there will be a much lower HS Spring turnout.
Stats for the Fall 2016 accepted students
Dallas lowest accepted: 51.1pts (40 HS)
Houston lowest accepted: 35pts
Now be advised that there is a full 20 points given to any TWU student with 32+ credit hours. That means if you're a TWU student with 32+ you've got great chances. Now for you transfer students (such as myself), I advise studying your tail end off for that TEAS in order to be competitive. It's not impossible, but it is improbable if you don't produce excellent returns.
Let me know if you have any questions about the application process or how the point system works and I'll be glad to answer. I spent hours researching and talking with advisors, so I've gotta lot of slick info in my book. Also, I'll probably post the actual calculator excel spreadsheet they use for calculating points later, so you can play around with it.
Hi guys, reading everyone's posts has got me crazy worried.
I'm applying to the Houston campus for Spring.
Here are my stats:
Nursing Core GPA: 3.280
Pre-requisite GPA: 3.327
Preference: No
Teas: 82.7
Total points: 30
If I had preference, that number would be a 48.
Sooo looks like I'm probably going to not get in. Does anyone know about how if we were to apply for Fall 2017, do we need to have all our pre-requisites by Fall 2016 or if Spring 2017 courses would count towards the 32 credits?
Stressed17: if I can remember correctly, you have to have all your nursing core prereqs done by the time the application closes. Those are classes like a&p 1&2, chemistry, micro, nutrition, stats, psychology.
All ll the other prereqs have to be completed by the time the program starts. Those prereqs include classes like English and history and so on. So for those of us applying for the spring 17 program, nursing prereqs done by August 15, all other prereqs done by January.
I hope this answers your question :)
Hey everybody! I'll be reapplying for this spring semester and I was just wondering if I'm required to submit a new application and they pull my transcripts from my previous application or if I have to resubmit all my transcripts again. Also, I noticed that a few things changed with this semester's process and I'm a little bit confused if we have to send transcripts through nursingCAS or to TWU directly.

Hi Laura. I was scared that TWU didn't receive my TEAS score either so I just called the denton admission office. They transferred me to nursing people at DENTON and they have the TEAS score filed. So you should call to make sure. They said that they won't start processing anything until after the 8/15 deadline. So this is all we can do for now until then. Hope this helps!
