Aaaaalriiighty! With the large volume of nursing students who applied for TWU this Fall semester and the very few amount of drop outs, it's time to start up the Spring 2017 applicants forum topic!! I'm one of the waitlisters who didn't make it into the Fall 2016 Dallas nursing program, but definitely had competitive scores.

For reference I had a GPA of 3.86 (3.68 nursing core) and a TEAS score of an 87 (top 3%). That left me with a total of 47.7 points (43.83 for Spring 2017, but I'll explain).

Now keep in mind that this semester TWU will no longer be looking at cumulative GPAs, but only the nursing core GPA. Other than that, the change in the Program Materials on the Nursing CAS application, and that you don't need to send a transcript to NursingCAS, there have been no major changes to note for the Spring 2017 semester.

Also, to those who either scored less than me or have a lower GPA don't let that discourage you. Last application cycle was a weird one with close to triple the amount of Honor's students (HS=guaranteed acceptance) and an unusually low declination return. Last Spring, the lowest accepted student had about 43.1 points. Which equates to about a 3.6 GPA and an 82-85 TEAS. If you can hit that ballpark you're in a good spot. Also, since there was such a high percentage of HS for Fall 2016 it's likely that there will be a much lower HS Spring turnout.

Stats for the Fall 2016 accepted students

Dallas lowest accepted: 51.1pts (40 HS)

Houston lowest accepted: 35pts

Now be advised that there is a full 20 points given to any TWU student with 32+ credit hours. That means if you're a TWU student with 32+ you've got great chances. Now for you transfer students (such as myself), I advise studying your tail end off for that TEAS in order to be competitive. It's not impossible, but it is improbable if you don't produce excellent returns.

Let me know if you have any questions about the application process or how the point system works and I'll be glad to answer. I spent hours researching and talking with advisors, so I've gotta lot of slick info in my book. Also, I'll probably post the actual calculator excel spreadsheet they use for calculating points later, so you can play around with it.

Hi everyone,

I am applying for Dallas Spring 2017!

My stats are:

Nursing Core GPA- 3.58

Overall GPA- 3.78

TEAS-

Overall- 91.3%

Reading- 92.9%

Math 86.7%

Science 85.4%

English and Language Usage- 100%

Previous Bachelor's Bump

No TWU Bump

After using the TWU spreadsheet online it looks like I have 52 points (if I entered all the info correctly).

I am pretty nervous about this round of apps! Seeing all the 3.7-4.0 GPAs make me even more nervous!

Good luck everyone :)

Hello everyone! I am applying for the Spring 2017 semester. If I get accepted in October for TWU, accept my acceptance, but then get accepted into another program in December, how do I go about "cancelling" my acceptance for TWU? I sure hope this makes sense LOL :wacky:

Shelby22TX your stats are GREAT! I think your TEAS score makes up for not having a 3.7-4.0 GPA, right? I don't think you have a reason to be nervous! Have you talked to any advisors about your chances of getting in?

Hello everyone! I'm reapplying for TWU Dallas. I applied this past Fall 2016 semester with a 4.0 GPA and an 85% on my TEAS, I wasn't wait listed. I'm currently working on getting my TEAS in the high 90's. I wish all of you the best of luck! I hope this round is a lot easier than the last.

ashleyladonna I'm surprised you didn't get in with your stats... do you have a prior bachelors or the twu bump?

The Fall '16 round was apparently a crazy one. I myself was waitlisted with a 4.0 and 88 teas and am now applying for Spring '16.

From what I was told by an advisor, a lot (40 or more) of the students that gained acceptance were honors students. This granted them automatic acceptance as long as they had a 3.0 GPA and a 64 teas. Due to the concurrent agreement with TWU's honors program, quite a few people that wouldn't have been admitted otherwise were accepted. So that's pretty much why a lot of people with stellar stats were waitlisted/rejected. It was a shock for everyone

I think it'll be easier to get in this round. I was #2 wait listed. I'm assuming you were #1 because your GPA is like .02 better than mine. I hope we get in this next round!!

@twunursingstudent interesting.....I wonder if they are projecting it will be the same problem with this upcoming spring semester.. that would be very unfortunate!

No I don't! Those bumps suck for us transfer students. Do you have a bump?

@CommittedToNurse Hmm, I was actually third..

Anyway, fingers crossed, I hope to see you in January:)

@future.rn.bsn I doubt it.. From what I was told the Spring semesters have less people applying and are slightly less competitive. Here's hoping we get in!

Your TEAs is awesome!
