Aaaaalriiighty! With the large volume of nursing students who applied for TWU this Fall semester and the very few amount of drop outs, it's time to start up the Spring 2017 applicants forum topic!! I'm one of the waitlisters who didn't make it into the Fall 2016 Dallas nursing program, but definitely had competitive scores.

For reference I had a GPA of 3.86 (3.68 nursing core) and a TEAS score of an 87 (top 3%). That left me with a total of 47.7 points (43.83 for Spring 2017, but I'll explain).

Now keep in mind that this semester TWU will no longer be looking at cumulative GPAs, but only the nursing core GPA. Other than that, the change in the Program Materials on the Nursing CAS application, and that you don't need to send a transcript to NursingCAS, there have been no major changes to note for the Spring 2017 semester.

Also, to those who either scored less than me or have a lower GPA don't let that discourage you. Last application cycle was a weird one with close to triple the amount of Honor's students (HS=guaranteed acceptance) and an unusually low declination return. Last Spring, the lowest accepted student had about 43.1 points. Which equates to about a 3.6 GPA and an 82-85 TEAS. If you can hit that ballpark you're in a good spot. Also, since there was such a high percentage of HS for Fall 2016 it's likely that there will be a much lower HS Spring turnout.

Stats for the Fall 2016 accepted students

Dallas lowest accepted: 51.1pts (40 HS)

Houston lowest accepted: 35pts

Now be advised that there is a full 20 points given to any TWU student with 32+ credit hours. That means if you're a TWU student with 32+ you've got great chances. Now for you transfer students (such as myself), I advise studying your tail end off for that TEAS in order to be competitive. It's not impossible, but it is improbable if you don't produce excellent returns.

Let me know if you have any questions about the application process or how the point system works and I'll be glad to answer. I spent hours researching and talking with advisors, so I've gotta lot of slick info in my book. Also, I'll probably post the actual calculator excel spreadsheet they use for calculating points later, so you can play around with it.

I was also one of the ones that was waitlisted last fall. My stats are:

Nursing & overall gpa 4.0

Teas 87

Honestly not sure if i should apply to the dallas or houston campus. I really dont want to get rejected again and i know houston is easier to get into.

I will be applying to Houston! Hopefully we get in!

I just sent my application to HTX TWU!

GPA - 3.4

TEAS - 90%

I hope I have a shot!!!

Hey y'all!

I am concerned that my chances of getting into the Spring 2017 program is slim. I could use some advice on whether or not to apply. I took my TEAS and I got a 78%, but I have the preference bump. I am currently taking Microbiology and I am hoping for an A. If I get an A, I will have a 3.8 GPA. I'm unsure of where I fall in regards to the point system. Could someone fill me in and should I apply? Thank you and good luck!!

I feel like you should apply no matter what others think about your chances of getting in. If it is meant to be then it will happen! Best of luck to you!

Hey everyone!!!! Who is taking Patho at the Denton campus versus in Dallas this fall? I can't decide which class to register for. I've heard the Dallas professor is more difficult, but it seems as though more people have registered for that class. Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

I'm taking Patho at the Dallas campus but I don't really have a choice; the drive to Denton is out of the questions for me.

Vpatino, do you have a prior bachelor's degree or any course work done at TWU?

Do they look at Science GPA at all?

Or just the Nursing Core and Prereq GPA?

My Nursing Core GPA is 3.86, and Prereq is 3.89 but my science is like MUCH lower. My overall GPA isn't that good either at only 3.4ish.

So if they only look at Nursing Core and Prereq, I would be golden. Otherwise, might as well assume rejection.

TEAS is 94% individual, 99% national, 99% TWU

Have previous Bachelor's

I hope I can get in!

Guitarhamster, do you mind me asking what campus you're applying to: Dallas or Houston?

Best of luck to you! Those are phenomenal TEAS scores!

Hey all! Does anyone know if TWU accepts a microbiology course titled "intro to micro"? I've heard that UTH won't except it because of the "intro" but other schools such as HBU will. Intro to microbiology was the required micro class for nurses at my former university, and it was a rigorous course with a lab, etc. so I really hope TWU will accept it.

There should be a core course number, if the core number is the same they have to accept it.

@TaylorDFW: I think your GPA and TEAS score are amazing AND you have a bachelors. You only applied for Fall 2016, correct? Honestly, I would not risk retaking the TEAS. From what I have read, this fall semester was a weird one. I scored an 83.3 and I will be retaking it in hopes of a couple of extra points and I'm praying that I'm not shooting myself in the foot.
