Aaaaalriiighty! With the large volume of nursing students who applied for TWU this Fall semester and the very few amount of drop outs, it's time to start up the Spring 2017 applicants forum topic!! I'm one of the waitlisters who didn't make it into the Fall 2016 Dallas nursing program, but definitely had competitive scores.
For reference I had a GPA of 3.86 (3.68 nursing core) and a TEAS score of an 87 (top 3%). That left me with a total of 47.7 points (43.83 for Spring 2017, but I'll explain).
Now keep in mind that this semester TWU will no longer be looking at cumulative GPAs, but only the nursing core GPA. Other than that, the change in the Program Materials on the Nursing CAS application, and that you don't need to send a transcript to NursingCAS, there have been no major changes to note for the Spring 2017 semester.
Also, to those who either scored less than me or have a lower GPA don't let that discourage you. Last application cycle was a weird one with close to triple the amount of Honor's students (HS=guaranteed acceptance) and an unusually low declination return. Last Spring, the lowest accepted student had about 43.1 points. Which equates to about a 3.6 GPA and an 82-85 TEAS. If you can hit that ballpark you're in a good spot. Also, since there was such a high percentage of HS for Fall 2016 it's likely that there will be a much lower HS Spring turnout.
Stats for the Fall 2016 accepted students
Dallas lowest accepted: 51.1pts (40 HS)
Houston lowest accepted: 35pts
Now be advised that there is a full 20 points given to any TWU student with 32+ credit hours. That means if you're a TWU student with 32+ you've got great chances. Now for you transfer students (such as myself), I advise studying your tail end off for that TEAS in order to be competitive. It's not impossible, but it is improbable if you don't produce excellent returns.
Let me know if you have any questions about the application process or how the point system works and I'll be glad to answer. I spent hours researching and talking with advisors, so I've gotta lot of slick info in my book. Also, I'll probably post the actual calculator excel spreadsheet they use for calculating points later, so you can play around with it.
I honestly didnt study for it. But i taught and tutor middle school students before this so I am pretty familiar with much of the basic content on teas. But i can see teas being hard for many people whos been out of secondary school for a while. Many people i talked to suggest just buying the ati guide and practice test.
I spoke to Ms.Lewis from the TWU Houston Campus last week.
She said that that TWU only looks at the Nursing Core GPA for admission.
The courses that include the nursing core GPA are:
I am going to retake one of these courses before the August 15 deadline to increase my GPA.
My gpa will depend on the chemistry class that I am currently taking. If I score an A, I will have a 3.71 but if I score a B, I will have a 3.57. I'm really worried because I want to get into the TWU nursing program so bad! FutureRNMelanie...Review the ATI testing guide, that will help you increase your TEAS score. Best of luck to you!
Hey All - I'm also applying to TWU. I spoke to an advisor recently at Denton and was under the impression the 32 TWU hour bump would put lots of people in.
Unfortunately, I don't have that. My advisor said my prior bachelor's would account for something, albeit a small boost.
Like others confirmed here, TWU is only looking at the nursing core GPA going forward. In my case, that was very helpful, since 14 years ago I got a couple of C's. But have made straight As in all my sciences.
My stats:
Nursing Core GPA 4.0
TEAS V 88%
Prior Bachelors ~ 3.4
If we apply to one campus, I'm assuming we won't be considered for the other? It appears the Houston Campus is less competitive, but I would prefer Dallas.
Also, is that TWU GPA calculator still accurate? I calculated my points to be 61.47 (it added 8 points for a prior BS)
@hihibro that is a great TEAS score, I don't see how you couldn't get in with those stats. I have a couple of questions. 1. How long out did you start studying before you took the test? 2. What did you use to study for the test? Everyone under the sun has told me the ATI study manual, which I have, it just doesn't seem to be doing it for me. Thanks!!

I'm going to sound like a broken record lol. I got the the ATI manual, took the practice exam in the book, and gauged where my weaknesses where in. In my case, it was sciences since it I took them roughly 4~6 years ago. The ATI manual does a decent job on the general aspect of what to expect for sciences. However, I remember material on the actual exam that were not in the book.
Also, I watched youtube videos. There's plenty of good ones on there. I used Bozeman Sciences, CrashCourse, and Khan Acedemy mainly. Hopefully, you'll find one suited for your tastes.
I spent roughly a week just reviewing the material for a couple hours a day.
You should also check out this post made by another member if you haven't already. It was pretty helpful.

I didn't buy the online practice tests, but I timed myself for each section at home to mimic the time restraints.
Hope it goes well for you!

83% is a great score, I think you'll be fine as long as your pre-req gpa and science gpa is high. I wish I came close to the scores you guys are getting!
