Aaaaalriiighty! With the large volume of nursing students who applied for TWU this Fall semester and the very few amount of drop outs, it's time to start up the Spring 2017 applicants forum topic!! I'm one of the waitlisters who didn't make it into the Fall 2016 Dallas nursing program, but definitely had competitive scores.

For reference I had a GPA of 3.86 (3.68 nursing core) and a TEAS score of an 87 (top 3%). That left me with a total of 47.7 points (43.83 for Spring 2017, but I'll explain).

Now keep in mind that this semester TWU will no longer be looking at cumulative GPAs, but only the nursing core GPA. Other than that, the change in the Program Materials on the Nursing CAS application, and that you don't need to send a transcript to NursingCAS, there have been no major changes to note for the Spring 2017 semester.

Also, to those who either scored less than me or have a lower GPA don't let that discourage you. Last application cycle was a weird one with close to triple the amount of Honor's students (HS=guaranteed acceptance) and an unusually low declination return. Last Spring, the lowest accepted student had about 43.1 points. Which equates to about a 3.6 GPA and an 82-85 TEAS. If you can hit that ballpark you're in a good spot. Also, since there was such a high percentage of HS for Fall 2016 it's likely that there will be a much lower HS Spring turnout.

Stats for the Fall 2016 accepted students

Dallas lowest accepted: 51.1pts (40 HS)

Houston lowest accepted: 35pts

Now be advised that there is a full 20 points given to any TWU student with 32+ credit hours. That means if you're a TWU student with 32+ you've got great chances. Now for you transfer students (such as myself), I advise studying your tail end off for that TEAS in order to be competitive. It's not impossible, but it is improbable if you don't produce excellent returns.

Let me know if you have any questions about the application process or how the point system works and I'll be glad to answer. I spent hours researching and talking with advisors, so I've gotta lot of slick info in my book. Also, I'll probably post the actual calculator excel spreadsheet they use for calculating points later, so you can play around with it.

WOW!!! All I have to say is God is good! I spoke to one of my counselors and I was able to get in one of the Life Span classes so it looks like ill be able to apply to the Spring of 2017 after all! Yay! I have never been happier to start a class LOL.

That is AWESOME!!! Yay!!!!!!

If you don't mind, I have a question for you.

May you email me?

Sure! Whats your email address?

I had a lot of problems with it through Internet Explorer but it finally worked with Chrome.

glad you figured it out @MamiTo4 ! I have learned that Google Chrome seems to be more reliable at times rather than Internet Explorer.

Quick question! How is it that some people have 3 GPA scores? I calculated mine with the GPA spreadsheet provided by the TWU website and it only gave me 2 GPAs. I will be applying with a science GPA of 3.52 and an overall of 3.538. I am not sure if that is competitive enough, but I will be taking the TEAS next Friday! - YIKES!!

Do they look at Science GPA at all?

Or just the Nursing Core and Prereq GPA?

My Nursing Core GPA is 3.86, and Prereq is 3.89 but my science is like MUCH lower. My overall GPA isn't that good either at only 3.4ish.

So if they only look at Nursing Core and Prereq, I would be golden. Otherwise, might as well assume rejection.

TEAS is 94% individual, 99% national, 99% TWU

Have previous Bachelor's

I hope I can get in!

@guitarhamster - I think you will be just fine! You basically aced the TEAS! What did you study? (If you don't mind me asking). I am not sure what GPA they look at but I am sure they look at the nursing GPA for sure.

You guys have great gpa's and Teas scores. I just took the Teas on Monday and unfortunately did not pass all the sections. I'm definitely going to read the study guide from start to finish before I tackle that beast again. Good luck to you all during application process!

I scored an 83.3 on the TEAS and just don't think it's competitive enough from what I read on here.

I heard that a competitive score is at least an 85%, but honestly an 83% is not bad! I would just speak to an adviser and see what they tell you before retaking it.

Thank you for your response. I heard that 85% is the average so 83% is not bad, I would just like to increase my chances. However, I worry because they take your most recent grade, not your highest. Which means that if I retake it, there is a chance I might score lower. I'm going to wait until the beginning of July to decide.
