Hello!
I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?
After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.
So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!
Hello to all my fellow applicants! My name is Nicole and I'm applying for the traditional BSN Program in Dallas! I attended an information session on 7/13 and found it to be extremely helpful. I got A LOT of info and questions answered, so if you have any, I will relay the info. I was told. I have a 3.56 GPA (they consider 3.5 to be competitive); I am completely done with my prereqs, 55 of 58 (don't need Woman's cultural studies if your core complete); I have been studying relentlessly for the TEAS V that I will take on 7/25 (they consider 80% to be competitive); and I am registered to take Patho at the Denton campus this Fall! Oh yeah, & I'm SUPER excited! :)
Welcome, Nicole!! Your stats look good :) I take the TEAS-V on 7/23 and I'm just ready to have it done and over with! There's a bunch on this thread who are taking Patho at Denton in the fall, so I'm sure we'll all meet at some point. Good to have you on the thread; let us know what you make on your TEAS-V!
Thanks Ambrekai! Good luck to you also! I say your other posts that you got the book and A & B practice test from ati. I did the same and have read the cover from front to back. I timed myself taking the practice tests in the book because my concern is the time limit on each section, eekk! I think we have both well prepared ourselves and should do great! I just want to blow it out of the park because my GPA is right there on the competitive edge! Good Luck!!! :)

Hey Nicole! There are quite a few of us taking Patho in the fall at the Denton campus :) Welcome to the forum!
That's GREAT to know! I took an online practice test yesterday and only scored a 80%...so that kinda bummed me out! Going to study hardcore today and tomorrow and take another practice test on Thursday :)
Oh, you shouldn't have anything to worry about then. I was scoring 70% on the practices and freaking out, but I made an 86 on the actual exam. You're going to do really good :) Let us know!

Oh thank you SO much for telling me that! That gives me some hope, lol. I'll definitely let y'all know as soon as I know...hopefully I get the scores right away tomorrow!
Have any of y'all started doing the immunizations yet? I don't have my immunization records (except for tetorifice, which I updated 2 years ago thanks to a rusty nail). Are y'all doing them at the TWU with the student discount or else where? I think I need to start on these ASAP. I'm not sure if I can get records from my high school-it's been a while......let's just say Nirvana was cool back then. So do I do the titers (expensive right?) or just get all of them again (ugh)? Advice?

I lost my shoot record so I had to get almost all of my shoots again (Hep. B, Hep. A, Tdap, and Varicella) they were required to be done before I applied to the Collin County Nursing program (idk about TWU I have not looked that up yet). I went to my high school to see if they had the record and according to my them they only keep it for 5 years after you graduate. I got lucky and they still had mine, but all it showed was MMR witch was weird. Any whom if i were you i would start them because for Hep. B and Hep. A you have to get more than one dose. Hep. B is a serious of 3 doses 1st dose now, 2nd dose a month later, and 3rd dose 6 months later. Hep. A is 1st dose now than 2nd dose a month later. Tdap and Varicella are just a one time dose. Hope this helps.
The Hep B shots don't have to be "finished" by the time you start nursing school, but you DO need to have the first two done, is what I've heard.
@kmlnielsen, have you always lived in Texas? All the shots you've received since being a baby should be on record with the Texas Department of State Health Services...you just need to find a branch close to where you live. I think you have to pay a small fee to get your record, but I would start with that before you go out and pay for a bunch of shots you don't need. Also, any shots that you're missing from your records you should be able to get at the county health department for SUPER cheap. Titers will have to be done at your doctor's office though, if I understand correctly.

Oh yeah, also they do give you extra points on top of your GPA for EACH 1st attempt A in A&P I & II, Micro, and Statistics! I have 3 out of 4. Not sure how many points you get for each.
