Hello!
I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?
After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.
So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!
Just found this website and read through some of the pages. I think I am even more nervous now!! I put a lot on the line to go back to school for nursing so I am really hoping this all works out. Question- can you apply to both Dallas and Houston and do you have to submit two different applications? I also realized how behind I am in studying/taking the TEAS. Y'all sure are on top of things! I have taken four classes this summer plus a job so I have had zero time to work on anything else. I am also in patho this upcoming fall...excited to know others here are taking it too :)
Hey Shellystev welcome! I am also super nervous I work full time and taken 4 classes this summer idk what I was thinking! I been squeezing in as much studying as possible for the TEAS V. I recommend that you order the book asap that way you can start studying and good luck.
Does anyone know anything about the new professor listed as the pathophysiology professor at Denton campus? They changed to someone else and I wonder if she is a good professor or not.
Yeah, I noticed that too. I looked that professor up on rate my professor and she had a 3.5 rating but it was only from one person.
Hey hopefuls!
I was accepted into the Dallas program and will be starting once fall begins. From personal experience, I'd just like to point out a couple things that might help those who are new to the application process (or is just as confused as I once was!). If there are any other questions you may have about something that I may have missed, feel free to message me and I'll be happy to answer!
As I'm sure most of you know, the four first-time preferences are A&P I, A&P II, microbiology, and statistics. I highly recommend that you aim for As in at least two out of four (lecture AND lab) of these courses. Keep in mind that any Cs made in your science courses (Cs in other courses matter too!) can highly affect the possibility of you getting in. In addition, those who are currently attending TWU (and who will be receiving the .4 bump) should keep their GPA at 3.5 or above. Thus, whenever the bump is added, you'll definitely be considered competitive. As for your TEAS, they say to aim for an 80%. I made just under 80%, but I received 2/4 of the preferences and had a GPA of 3.96 once the bump was added.
And don't get discouraged by the number of people applying! For fall applicants, we had 880 people apply...but once you start to weed out those who didn't make a high enough TEAS to be considered, those who haven't finished their courses, etc, you'll realize it's not as bad! I know many people were wondering if the Houston campus was competitive and honestly, I know people who made it into that campus with 1/4 preferences and a 3.3 GPA. There's not as many applicants as there are for Dallas since most people are from the surrounding DFW area. I hear the Houston campus is gorgeous though! :) I'm not too fond of the Dallas campus...bummer lol.
One last thing I'd like to mention is if you haven't signed up for it yet, TAKE PATHO IN THE FALL! Study hard for that class. I barely got by with a C and I've never made anything lower than a B (I think I was way too occupied with worrying about admissions that I completely neglected that class -- big mistake). Once your application is in, don't worry over it anymore! Besides, if you do make it in, you'll be glad you got that class out of the way once you see the other courses you have to take.
Alright well I hope that helped someone and as always, feel free to ask me any questions! Good luck everyone!

OMG Thank you SO much for taking the time to tell us all this! You rock! And congrats on getting in for the fall semester!!! Hope your first semester goes well...and of course, hope to see you in the spring!
Thanks Voldemort for the input!
I also wanted to add, that I've been through the application process when I applied to UTHSC for the Fall 2012 start. It was so nerve racking and I thought that UT was the ONLY school I wanted to go to. My stats were great, had a 94% on the HESI, and worked my butt off by squeezing my remaining 17 hrs in the Spring semester! I have three kids and gave up my job to be able to focus on school. Well, I got a denial letter from UT and my husband's job started slowing down considerable to the point that we were struggling to pay our bills. We made the decision to move to the DFW area, when I got denied, to live with my mother to be able to live on one income and cut down on the stress until I finish school. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason. Our situation has improved so much since our move, and my husband starts his new job tomorrow making more income than his last, and I actually like TWU's nursing program better than UT's. Two weeks ago I also got a call from UTHSC nursing admissions saying that " I know you got a denial letter, but...I have great news! You are at the top of a waiting list now for the Fall start and it is a very good possibility that you could still get in!". I explained to her that we had moved and I was no longer interested but it goes to show, never give up hope because even if you do not get in, the people who do get accepted might end up going somewhere else, not finishing there pre-reqs, not passing the background check, ...etc. Just don't get discouraged and stay positive! You can find a silver-lining in almost any situation if you just stay positive and keep moving forward.:)
I will be so glad once the application is out of my hands. At that point I will have done everything I can do. @nici0513 I also have 3 kids and I closed my business to foucs on school full time.
I'm nervous about the TEAS b/c I have not studied for it hardly at all. I am scheudled to take it on 8/20. But I am in summer school at the moment, so my time is limited.

Thank you so much for all your information. I got a C in chemistry
but my gpa is at a 3.5 so I hope that does not affect me much. Guess only time will tell.
I got a 92% on my TEAS! :)
That's awesome!:yeah:I know that's a relief. I take mine tomorrow, don't know if I'm going to be able to sleep! I've been studying but I have this fear that I'm going to go in, freeze, and forget everything. I'm ready to stop carrying this study book around with me everywhere. I'll let you guys know as soon as I get my results. Congrats again!!
