This is for students applying to TWU Dallas for Fall 2014 :)
Hey guys! I noticed that there wasn't a Fall 2014 page yet... Probably because its not for another year but I thought I would start one!
I'm currently attending North Central Texas College and I'm about to start my last semester of required prereqs, and I'm taking a CNA class this fall!
I've attended an open house at TWU Denton & Dallas; I absolutely love the campus and the staff seems so friendly! I'm really excited to attend TWU. Hopefully I'll be in Dallas for the nursing program, but if life does not take me in that direction--I'll make my way for a Physical Therapy degree!
I'm sooo excited to start nursing classes and spend time in the hospitals. I'm on this website all the time and I hope there are some people on here applying the same time as me so we can support each other :-)
Tell me about yourself!
Wow, those were sent out fast! Does anyone know how long after the night/wknd acceptance letters are sent that they send the traditional acceptance letters?
Congrats to those who got into the night/wknd program! Good luck with Patho, I'm taking it now. It's the hardest class I've ever taken, it's insane. I love it though, learning some neat stuff. McArthur is wonderful, it's just a very hard class. If you are able to take it early, I highly recommend it... Although, I'm thinking it would almost be worth it to wait until Fall rather than take it in 4 weeks over summer. I can't imagine trying to cram it even more than we already are!
Thank you! I was surprised that they went out that quickly too. I haven't heard when the traditional program will their letters. I'm really excited to take patho, but I have heard it's a really intense class. They have an online path over the long summer, but I really want to take McArthur's class. Do you think it would be ok over the long summer? or do you think McArthur is worth the stress of a short summer?
Thank you so much. I am looking forward to fall. I was also very surprised we found out so earlier but glad. I was going crazy waiting. We have to have our acceptance letter turned in by the 11th so it would be after that before they start with the traditional program. But I'm not sure when. I wish I had taken patho this semester but with my kids and there busy schedule I just missed the deadline to register. I hope it will not be to hard to keep up with the class during the summer. Good thing is it will be the only class I take. Good luck to you.
McArthur is wonderful... I absolutely recommend her, but if your schedule is best with online then do what you've got to do. She just reads straight from her notes in lecture, but she has a lot of stories that help you understand things and also shows a lot of useful pictures. She does not write her tests though, they come from the textbook author's test bank. Just going to lecture and using her notes will not get you a passing test grade. I go to lecture 4 hours, a 2 hour per week peer tutoring session and spend an additional 6-8 hours a week studying and I've still made a C on both tests we have taken so far. Actually, I failed both of them but she curved them, so I ended up with C's. Like most nursing students, I'm used to being an A student, this class is just very challenging. I'm changing things up for my next test and doing about 12 hours per week of additional studying instead of the usual 6-8. I have a one year old so it's hard, but I can't imagine taking this class with a full load of other classes to study for... 80 has been the average test score on both tests so far, with someone even making a perfect score on both, so it can be done! I'm just awful with reading textbooks, and you HAVE to read it or you will not pass. There's way too much information not to.
Anyways, I know that was more than you asked for :) and she will also tell you all of that on the first day so you're prepared haha. But she is absolutely wonderful and one of the best professors I've had. Either way, you'll be studying your butt off, so I say just go with whichever one will give you the most extra time for studying.
Well....I have been watching these boards for about 5 years now...and I am now accepted into the night/weekend program! Crazy, really. Trying to wrap my head around working f/t, having an 11 & 8 yo, husband, and getting my bsn. I do have a bachelors and masters both in kinesiology. Currently I am a Group Ex and Personal Training Coordinator...had a 3.75 and got a 76 on my TEAS. going to enjoy the next 5 months of not having homework! Best wishes to those of you that are (im)patiently waiting!
Hi aelaine42, I too applied for the Fall weekend program. I also have a full time job, older kids and husband etc.I have a previous degree, 3.75, but go a 73 on TEAS. So, if you have not heard, and I have not heard (received and email) I assume I did not get in. I was told that you can get into the traditional program as your application will be resubmitted. Can I ask if you have heard anything else?
I also have a full time job, 2 kids, husband, etc. So I understand how you feel. I sometimes wonder how I will be able to handle it all. I will figure it out some how. I'm just glad I got into the weekend/evening program. Don't know how we would have handled it with the traditional program. Right now I need to continue to work. Don't want my kids to have to get out of what they like to do. It will all be worth it in the end.
LadyFlyer58 - I wouldn't quite assume the worst just yet, sister!!! I tried to stay on target (or ahead) of the deadlines, so maybe that's what helped with my early acceptance. Either way, keep your head up! It can come any day!
rlmom - My mortgage wouldn't get paid if I didn't work! lol! So, I HAVE TO! But, I have also taken on some huge challenges (figure competition) that ate up all of my spare time..but that was for 12 weeks..not 16 months! Maybe we'll be in the same classes together! We will definitely figure something out. As of now, I'm trying to prep for materials...do we know if books are typically hardcover or e-books? I'm considering getting a laptop or tablet + bluetooth keyboard...but I am also an old-school note taking type of person...I still have all of my A&P stuff from 5 years ago..Do you have any plans/ideas? Also, everyone is talking about taking patho...but I never did..and no one said I needed to..so that slightly concerns me, but I have had the advisor look over my transcripts TWICE..BUT I have also had advisor AND department heads mess up on my transcripts.
aelaine - I totally understand about the mortgage thing. If I didnt work we might be able to pay the mortgage but we wouldnt have any utilities or food. lol Plus my kids are very active in sports and I dont want them to have to give anything up. We actually travel with them for some things. I have heard that books are hardcover and e-book but I'm not sure how true that is. I have both a laptop and tablet. I plan to put both to use. On my tablet I have an app that I can take handwritten notes in. I plan to try and use that to cut down on paper. We will see how that goes. I do plan to take patho this summer just to get it out of the way. It should make the 1st semester a little less stressfull. Take not that I just said a little less stressfull:) Let me know if you decide to take it. I'm planning on taking it on-line. If I cant I will have to just take it during the regular semester. You dont have to take it right now but it is the only nursing class you can take before you start classes. I also plan to look over my A&P stuff while I wait for classes to start just to keep it fresh in my mind. I would also like to find out what books we need so I can start pricing. It would also be nice to be able to start purchasing a few at a time so it doesnt hit me all at once. We will keep in touch and help each other through this process. And like you said, hopefully we will be in some of the same classes.
