TWU Dallas Fall 2014 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

This is for students applying to TWU Dallas for Fall 2014 :)

Hey guys! I noticed that there wasn't a Fall 2014 page yet... Probably because its not for another year but I thought I would start one!

I'm currently attending North Central Texas College and I'm about to start my last semester of required prereqs, and I'm taking a CNA class this fall!

I've attended an open house at TWU Denton & Dallas; I absolutely love the campus and the staff seems so friendly! I'm really excited to attend TWU. Hopefully I'll be in Dallas for the nursing program, but if life does not take me in that direction--I'll make my way for a Physical Therapy degree!

I'm sooo excited to start nursing classes and spend time in the hospitals. I'm on this website all the time and I hope there are some people on here applying the same time as me so we can support each other :-)

Tell me about yourself!

I got the Littman Cardio III because it is one used by most medical doctors, so I figured, why not? Once our first round of skills check offs came, I was glad I went with the Cardio III. You're able to hear lung and heart sounds better than with the SE II. One of my friends has an SE II and is upgrading to Cardio III after I let her borrow mine for practice. Also, at our hospital clinicals I was able to hear my patient's crackles in her lungs CLEARLY while the other student who was with me couldn't really make out what she was hearing (she has an SE II). For me, it was worth the extra $$. If price is an issue, go with the SE II; it'll do the job! Littman makes good stethoscopes regardless.

Wow- so much great information! I appreciate you taking the time to write about your experience, and I must say that I feel a lot more at ease after reading your post! It seems like you read my mind and answered all of my questions without me having to ask them! :-D If I think of anything else, I will be sure to contact you.

Best of luck on your finals and thank you again! :-)

What is the format our nametags are supposed to be in? I forgot what goes on which line!

Ney, Thanks so much for all the info!! So nice to know how much you have enjoyed it, I wish you all the best in the rest of your semesters :)

Did everyone enjoy orientation and find it helpful? It's been like pulling teeth to get info out of the office staff, they haven't been helpful at all...

I was out of the state during orientation so I will be going to the make-up orientation at the end of this month. Is anyone else attending the 2nd one as well?

Who is taking Patho this summer? I signed up and apparently I need to take TX Govt too since I didn't have to take it for my 1st degree :( So lame, this is already getting so expensive!

Speaking of expensive, do any of you Houstonians know of a cheap clinic to get immunizations? I know I'm so late, I couldn't afford it earlier though :(

Anyway, thanks again Ney and all of you for all your info and help! I'm excited to meet you all! :)

the orientation was very helpful. The faculty, staff, and students did a great job trying to prepare/lessen the load for us once school starts.

The pre-reqs clearly state TX govt is a mandatory class, so I'm not sure why you are surprised you need to take it now.

Hi, guys! I just finished up my semester and now am selling my textbooks. I have a textbook for every class except for pharm, so if you're interested, let me know! I'm selling them cheap because I know how darn expensive those things are and I'll be honest, with all you have to purchase your first semester, it can get very pricey very fast.

Also, do you guys have a Facebook group page yet? I highly recommend you make one if you don't have one! :)

Hey Tracy, I don't know if you need titers drawn, but I went to www.accesalabs.com and they were the cheapest I could find. There's 30 lab clinics in Houston so I bet there's one near you. They did my MMR and Varicella for $158.

I'm glad you found the orientation so helpful, I'm looking forward to it! :)

Haha, I'm not surprised I have to take TX Govt, I was told after I got my acceptance letter. However, before I applied I spoke to an advisor about the pre-reqs I needed based on my transcripts, and there was no mention of TX Govt. He said I would have to take that Women's Studies course, which wasn't true. Perhaps he got confused. So, yes I guess I was kind of surprised when I was told I needed it after all, lol! Anyway, it just seems like a waste of time and money to me after I have already gotten a degree in which I had to take all the US Histories and American Politics courses. Oh well, I just have to focus on the positive side of taking the course... More education and knowledge! :)

Thanks for reply, I hope you're enjoying your summer so far! :)

Nice! Thanks so much for the info! I'm definitely going to call them up! :)

Thanks

Hey tracydsc! I too was out of state during orientation, so I will be at the makeup. I emailed Ms. Bonner last month about a makeup day and she told me she would get back with me on a date. I followed up with her a couple of weeks ago and still no date. If you don't mind, what date did she give you?

Were you accepted into the weekend/evening program or the traditional? I will be doing the weekend/evening program. So excited to meet other future nurses!
