TWU Applicants Spring 2011

Published

Hello Everyone,

Well I am currently looking to apply to TWU for Spring 2011. I thought it would be nice to start a thread because I am sure we will all need a good support system. The whole application process is so STRESSFUL!

Lets Get It Started!!!

I know about UTHSC and TWU. What does PVU stand for?

Prairie View University - their College of Nursing is located in downtown Houston, on Fannin Street I believe.

Yes MissMoe you are correct. UH Victoria program is acceletrated I have a bachelors degree and that is why I am applying for that program. I find that most people in my classes are RNs that have obtained and ADN so I decided to only apply to BSN programs since I eventually want to get my masters.

Hello Everyone!

Does anyone know what has been the cut off GPA for TWU?

Hello Everyone!

Does anyone know what has been the cut off GPA for TWU?

From what I have gathered from others that were accepted...there is NO real cut-off.

There are two types of people that get accepted:

  • The ones that get the 1st round of acceptance letters
  • Those that get the 2nd round due to the fact that most 1st round people don't actually accept the offer.

With that being said, I have heard as low as 3.0 and as high as 4.0+

Like I have said previously, I believe the 1st grades in the listed "important" classes and your grades on the entrance test are what really matters. As for me, my GPA was not all that fabulous, but I had A's in those "important" classes and I did really really well on the entrance test.

If TWU is where you want to go, be confident and apply. Most realistic schools don't believe that all 4.0 students are the smartest or that all 3.0 students don't apply themselves. I heard the cutoff was 3.6 when I was accepted, but I know from those in my class that 3.6 was NOT the cutoff. I have also heard about a cutoff percentile on the entrance exam...that number has proven to be pretty accurate. I would give you the % but the Fall 2010 group took the HESI A2 and I believe that test has changed.

Hi missmoe,

Can you post the percent anyways even though it's from the HESI A2 just for reference purposes? Thanks.

MissMoe,

Thanks so much for responding... You provided some great information!

To kind of gauge where you might be, Hesi-wise, I got an overall 92%, with an 85% on the A&P section. Oh, and my GPA wasn't so great due to mediocre grades while perusing a different degree.

Thanks for all the info everyone!

MissMoe,

When you say that the cutoff for your class was not 3.6, was it higher or lower?

Thanks,

Kelly

Lower

Lower...I am pretty sure those that had lower GPAs had VERY high percentile ranks on the test.

As for me, my percentile rank was 96%...I guess that gave me some wiggle room on the GPA.

Hi missmoe,

Can you post the percent anyways even though it's from the HESI A2 just for reference purposes? Thanks.

Ok...don't quote me and don't use this as a reference for applying or not, but I was told anything under 75% was too low (on the HESI A2). Like I said earlier, apply regardless of what you hear from others. In my opinion the HESI A2 was a better fomatted test than the TEAS or the NET. With that in mind, there is no telling what will be considered as acceptable on the TEAS. To get a better assessment, call the admissions office personally and see what they say (that is if it isn't already on the admission website).:)

Nevermind...I found this on the website.

Minimum Test Score

  • The minimum composite exam score that will be accepted for the Spring 2011 admission only (application deadline date of September 1, 2010) is 64%. Please note that it is at the discretion of the College of Nursing to change the minimum composite score for any future application periods.

This is obviously the lowest they will take to even consider your application...however, this score is not a competitive one.
