Hello Everyone,
Well I am currently looking to apply to TWU for Spring 2011. I thought it would be nice to start a thread because I am sure we will all need a good support system. The whole application process is so STRESSFUL!
Lets Get It Started!!!
@ jpet101 the BS program for first degree students, Houston & Dallas have summer breaks. But I thought that TWU used to have a 15 or 16 month program for students who already had a degree. It was like an accelerated program...but I can't find anything on their website about it anymore. I just see the weekend program.

I just finished taking the CPR class at the Red Cross. You MUST take the CPR class for Health Professions. If the CPR class does not say Health Professions or Health Care Responders then you have to retake it. The class that is for 'Lay Responders' is the WRONG course. The Red Cross course was 8hrs long:devil: with an hour lunch. TWU actually offers a CPR class a few days before the semester starts but they don't tell you that until you are accepted and attend the Advisement Session. I took it at the Red Cross because I wanted to get it out of the way and didn't want to wait until the last minute. The price is roughly the same. The course includes CPR for infants and adults and AED (the shock pads) training. If you have anymore questions about what is required for admissions I will be glad to help.
BTW... TWU is great!! Even though I was accepted to the Fall 2010 program, I decided to take Patho this summer. Before I accepted TWU's offer, I visited the UTHSC-Houston and PVU campuses. I think I made the right choice. TWU is very peaceful...the staff and administration are soooo nice. People actually say hello when they pass you in the hallway. Everyone around you is going or have been where you are now. Whichever school you decide to attend, make sure you feel included and comfortable.
It doesn't have to be stressful. :redbeathe
Hello everyone. I'm new with posting here on allnurses.com but have been reading threads here for awhile. I'm also applying as a transfer student to TWU this fall. Currently, I have a 3.96 gpa for my prerequisites from a community college with some honors credit hours. But what's worrying me is the fact that I used to be in an ADN program during the 2008-2009 school year and didn't really make good grades. I had B's and an A my first semester but dropped to a D and F the following semester. It's just that I was struggling with somethings that year that are not school related but sadly affected my academics (though I don't think TWU would really be interested in that.) I don't know if this is going to affect my chances in getting in even if I have straight A's now from the 2009-2010 school year in addition to the honors classes. If just judging based on my prereqs, the only B I have is from English 1301 and everything else are all A's. I've seen on the TWU's website that other courses that are not listed as one of their lower division courses will not be calculated for admission. But I don't know, it just has me worrying.
Also, I took the TEAS V test a couple of months ago and have to agree that it is quite challenging. I got a 77.3% on my individual score with percentiles of 90 (natl) and 86 (program). I did not really study for this test and just want to first "test the waters" so to speak. I've also seen that average is somewhere around 75%, but I don't think a 77.3% will cut it for TWU. What resources and reviewers can I use to help bump my grade up on the TEAS? Any sort of feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Which TWU program are you referring to. The Houston campus was discontinued last I heard. Is that still correct? Thanks for the info about the cpr classes.
I will have to look into what you are saying about the Houston campus being discontinued. I am in the program now (BSN) and have not heard anything like that. TWU has the largest nursing program in the state (4th largest in the US), it would be very odd that it would be discontinued.

I also had some "sticky" grades on my transcript from when I attended college the first time. Medical issues came up and I failed and/or withdrew from a lot of classes. TWU knew nothing about why my grades sucked, so I was really nervous. I took the classes that pertained to nursing over again and made solid A's. Try to get the TEAS grade up a bit if you can and I believe you will do just fine. Apply EARLY!
P.S. Great job with your GPA!!! The fact that you are trying again and not giving up speaks volumes !!!!:yeah:
