TWU Applicants Spring 2011

Published

Hello Everyone,

Well I am currently looking to apply to TWU for Spring 2011. I thought it would be nice to start a thread because I am sure we will all need a good support system. The whole application process is so STRESSFUL!

Lets Get It Started!!!

Hi Kathy and welcome Jeaster & mayita!

Patho is not a pre req, however we are required to take it in the nursing program. Some ppl take patho before they enter the nursing program and some take it while they are in the nursing program.

I will be taking it this fall bc I heard/read that it is best to take it before you enter into the program bc it is one less class you have to focus on once we begin Junior 1. Plus the only classes I have left to take this fall is Quant lit & a multicultural woman's class. However it is completely your choice. :)

hey sooo im a little confused about the BIOL 4344-Pathophysiology course. im applying for spring 2011 and its NOT a prereq right... so could i just complete it upon acceptance bc ive been reading some other posts and i see some people are taking it in the fall

Take a look at the application requirements for the nursing program...Patho is not a requirement, but if you happen to take it before you are accepted, your grade in that class will be evaluated during the application process. It is NOT calculated in the prereqauisite GPA, but it is looked at. Just like the other science courses (A&P I&II, Chem, Micro) your first attempt grade is very important. After being accepted and attending the advisement session, we were told that Patho is the foundation for all of the Nursing courses. I was advised to take it in advance if you can because it is a difficult (time consuming) course. If you can take it early..great! It will lighten the load of your first semester.

Patho starts for me on Monday, and I already have homework . I will let you guys know how it goes.

ohhh ok just wanted to double check on that.. sweet. thanks so much!

Specializes in Navy Nurse.

Try to apply everywhere...I go to UT Tyler school of nursing and I think we have a great program..Professors are student advocates and they just want you to be nurses...not doctors..Just finished level 1..going to level 2 next semester....No stress in applying cause stress is in school, not before school..Good luck

Hey everyone! I just signed up for the TEAS exam and I'll be taking it Aug 27 in dallas :)

I just took the TEAS V last Monday and beasted it. Yay! I got 91.3% overall. :clpty:Hopefully this, along with my good grades, will get me accepted. :redbeathe Good luck to y'all out there. Oh, by the way, I have one of the official ATI study guides for sale if anyone is interested. $25.

Congrats! That's a great score! Please tell us more about the test. Which section was the most difficult for you? Did you only use the study guide to prepare? How much time allow for prep? 1 week, a couple of weeks?? Is it pencil and paper or on computer??

Thanks for your help!

It was computer based. Time wasn't an issue for me. Science was the hardest. I got all of the Math questions right. Got a few of the reading wrong, but it was pretty easy. It's a long test... I think it took me about 2 to 2.5 hours. All I did to study was use the study guide. I read all of the Science section which was a pretty good review and it also gave me an idea of a few questions which I really had no idea about. And acclimated (sp?) me to the phrasing of questions and what they seemed to be looking for. Then I took both of the practice tests in the book. That's about it. But I had the advantage of just having finished AP1 and 2 and Micro this past semester so a lot of the science was still pretty fresh. An overall view, like the study guide provides, is critical IMO. Funny thing happened to me. In the very beginning, they usually give a couple of practice ?s to get you used to taking it on the computer. So I started reading the first passage and answering the first couple of questions; I was kind of skimming through it so I could start the actual test. So the second passage comes and I'm like, ugh, another one? So then I get to the third story and realize there are no "practice" passages. This is the real deal! At the end, I had to go back to the first 2 stories and take it more seriously! So watch out for that. Good luck!

Thanks Palmsofvictory for the info! You're definitely going to get in with an awesome TEAS score!! Are you applying at Twu Dallas or Houston?

Hey everyone! I just signed up for the TEAS exam and I'll be taking it Aug 27 in dallas :)

What dates are out there for the TEAS V in Dallas? I am aiming for the August 15 deadline but need study time since I am also taking the HESI...

@MissHopeful - I live in Dallas, so I'll be applying there for sure, but I'll prob apply to both if that's allowed. My parents live in Houston so that's a possibility too. My wife and I have a house in Allen, so if I got accepted to Houston and not Dallas, it would mean 2 years of seeing her only on the weekends and I could stay with my parents during the week. It's "whatever it takes" at this point. We made it work when we were dating... I used to have to drive 5 hours from San Antonio to podunk Breckenridge TX to see her!! :redbeathe We could do it again if forced to. Obv don't want to tho. Are u applying to Dallas?

btw, I meant to say "An overall REVIEW, like the study guide provides, is critical IMO." in the post above. oops.

I completely understand! I am also going to be applying to Houston and Dallas. I live in Dallas too so TWU Dallas is my first choice but I would definitely move to Houston if I do not get into Dallas. I'm engaged, so I would be coming home on the weekends most of the time to see my fiance & my parents. Or they could take a trip to Houston to see me. Thats great that you have family in houston too so you won't need to spend money on an apartment if you get into Houston. But your TEAS score is great so I'm sure you will be getting into Dallas!!! Good luck :)
