  1. I think youll be fine GPA wise, just turn in your application ASAP and see it from there.. I am a Navy Nurse stationed in Walter Reed who just graduated from ODS..If you are determined to be a naval officer, then you will become one..goodluck..
  2. Hello Sw88tpea, Thank you for the answer in ODS, I was just curious. My recruiter told me I should start getting paid on May 12th which is the day I leave for ODS, when should I expect my first O-1 pay during training? I am bringing only about $500 cash with me, and I have been approved for the $2500 star card, I am just really worried I will short of money for ODS expenses, and personal expenses back home...Thank you very much..
  3. Thank you, and final question, How much cash/money do we bring/need overall for ODS?
  4. Hello Maam, I am leaving for ODS this upcoming May and I just have to ask if they allow you to wear swimming goggles during the third swim test qualification?? Thank you, and congratulations..
  5. Oh yeah, do what you gotta do to have some income, no hurt in doing that and I actually think it would be a smart way...If I already have a job like you I will just keep on working and it seems that you have an employer who is understanding. And no, I do not have any children and I am not married...San Diego was my first choice but I think they are not getting nurses for that station right now, but it might change in your case. I am getting Bethesda which was my second choice. I have respect on you joining the navy with 3 kids, I commend that. I can only imagine that it can be stressful, but I really think you will be fine because you will be an officer and many have done it who turned out just fine. And plus I think the military will really take good care of you due to the "bigger BAH" because you have dependents, free healthcare, and you will be in a stateside hospital working as nurse for 3 years....I also used to live in Northern Virginia, around the D.C. area...and trust me, it aint a bad place to live...
  6. You got plenty of time, just turn in your paperwork ASAP!!, cause it takes a while especially due to them doing a Secret Clearance background check on you...I did the NCP for 12 months...just applied early 2010 for fiscal year 2011...I already graduated nursing school and passed NCLEX, just waiting now to go to ODS this May...And after you submit, expect at least 2 months for acceptance or rejection....but I think youll get it..cause it reallly is first come first serve and also depends on your grades and hx...Goodluck..
  7. Littleluvbugnavy, No you do not have to inform them, but they did recommend working as a PRN or temporary agency. I guess you can work as a PCA because they do not really need to train you on that one, unlike as an RN when you have to have orientation for a month or 2 in which they would not do knowing you will be leaving them anyway. Either way you have to let them know you are going to the military, whether you sign a contract or not, you are considered doing military service and they have to let you go for that. But the point is, you have to disclose to them that you will be leaving for the navy, it is just common etiquette. But yes, I believe there is no penalty for working per source of Mrs. Smith. Good luck with graduation on May 2012 and studying for the NCLEX. Study hard for it, I took Hurst review course as a peace of mind, just to make sure I pass on the first try. Ask me more if you have any questions..
  8. I think you got it, all you need now is TEAS, Micro, and prayers!!...
  9. Congrats on being selected, you know how hard is it now to be selected for commission to the Navy Nurse Corps. I assume you are an RN going for the RN-BSN bridge program, correct me if I am wrong. If you are on Class 12070 May 13-June15th, then I will be in your class. Good luck with everything, see you in Newport..
  10. Yes I graduated nursing school December 2011, I was supposed to take my NCLEX on January 24th but I had some family emergency, so I was forced to move it forward to February 23rd. I was told I might be going in March and this was back in November. You have to realize that ODS consists of other professionals such as MD's, lawyers, chaplains, and not just nurses. And in the military, nothing is certain, you do and go at the whim of navy, meaning you do not always get what you have been told, it is just expected. My first choice was San Diego but when I did not get it, they gave me my second choice, all I can do is say "Yes sir". I joined the military to serve our country, our servicemen, and gain valuable experience I would never learn in the civilian world. You have to realize that we consider ourselves lucky to be selected for the NCP because right now, it is very very hard to get a commission especially to the Navy Nurse Corps. And yes, my Health Professions contact told me to contact my detailer ASAP when I pass or fail my nclex. You only get 2 tries to pass, if not, you are out of the navy. So make sure pass the first time!! even if you know you got 1 more to pass. It is always better to pass it the first time cause if you don't, you will not have the same confidence in you when you take it the second time cause youll know what is going to happen if you fail. I am just trying to motivate you, that's what the military is about, everyone motivates each other. Good luck with everything, I still got 2 months to spare before I go in May, I'm more excited than scared now cause I'm tired of being broke!!...lol
  11. I took and passed my NCLEX-RN on February 23rd, called my Detailer on the 27th. I took Hurst Review Live course and I only studied that material for a month. I didnt get my first pick which was San Diego, but I got my 2nd pick which was Bethesda. After scheduling me for ODS for May 13th to June 15 Class 12070, he told me to contact my recruiter to arrange flight tickets, household goods, and commissioning oath taking. Currently I am not working, you can ask if you want to work, and try to find some temporary jobs for the time being cause I do not really see harm in doing it. All of us got bills to pay. I probably need to work cause I have about 2 months before going to ODS. You graduating in May 2012 and taking about 1 to 1.5 months to study for NCLEX and depending if there is ODS classes open, you probably get scheduled around September or October, maybe!!, it may be earlier than that. But no, you do not go to ODS the day after you pass your NCLEX. I was in the Nurse Candidate Program also and NCP grads usually get first pick before the Direct Commission Nurses cause they already gave me money, and they wanted their investment working for them right away. So my suggestion is, yeah try to work for the time being, or yet call your detailer, or Mrs. Smith for advice. Again, no harm in doing it. Where you in the NCP? or direct commission? Good luck
  12. I graduated December 2011, and I am going to ODS Mid May-Mid June. And afterwards Im going to Walter Reed Military Medical Center in the DC area. You going to ODS depends on when you take your NCLEX boards and how soon your detailer schedules ODS for you. It does fill up real quick so the sooner you take your NCLEX, the sooner you get a spot in ODS. It usually is about 2 months after you take your NCLEX. Until then study for NCLEX so youll pass the first try, and physically train at the same time.. Good luck...
  13. You passed!!, go check your BON website, if your GN license is still active, then you have 111% passed the NCLEX boards, Congrats....Don't the PVT trick, is not a trick, its true cause you took an computer test, meaning they transmit results electronically, including the internet...so dun worry bout it...So go on and celebrate...
  14. I PASSED!!! The PVT still works!!!....If you live in Texas, and get the pop up and still doubt it, go to the BON website at bon.texas.gov and look up your GN license verification. If your GN permit is still there after you get the pop up and the delivery successful status means --> YOU HAVE PASSED!! Congrats to everyone who passed, to those who are about to take it....SLOW DOWN!, Think Safety!! all the time, Never!! use restraints, and Client focused answers!!!....So always "Assume the worst" and "Always pick the killer answer!!".
  15. Thanks everyone, I hope its 100% reliable!!..
