I know that we have enough stress in nursing school without bringing our weight into the picture but I put on 10 pounds this past semester! I was wondering if anyone else had trouble keeping weigt off in nursing school........I think I ate more due to stress and late night studying....I didnt exercise as much and I just.....felt my clothes getting tighter. I would like to lose these 10 pounds so my clothes can fit me again and also avoid gaining weight this next semester......grrr! Does anyone have any advice or has this happened to you.....my main goal in nursing school is to pass my classes but I also would like to maintain my health and not put on weight. Help!!:uhoh3:

I, too, lose weight. The problem is that I am almost too thin to begin with. I try to keep on the weight but it falls off, just as fast as it goes on. For some this might seem like something that I should be happy with. It is not. I suffer from anemia and asthma as it is. I find that when I lose too much weight I get sick a lot. Now that I am on break I can tell that I have gained it back because I feel great. But mark my word, come the end of Feb. I will be praying for 10 or more pounds. I think that it is my metabolism. A friend of mine noticed that I didn't eat many carbs and suggested that I try and increase my intake of them. so I am going to try that. My goal is to try and take better care of myself this year. I am going to try and eat better and exercise. Looking at me, you wouldn't think that I had any problems. But while I am thin, I am also very unhealthy. I just wannabe healthy again.

Mine was the opposite. I lost weight. It was as hard as gaining weight 'coz I really had a hard time gaining my weight back. I was too busy and stressed out in school and I hardly get enough sleep. Even though I ate a lot, it didn't ...work well. I was under weight when I was in College.

Don't fret about the weight you guys are gaining during school. the lack of an actual lunch break, and all the stress that goes with it will melt it right off of you. I gained about 10-15 pounds while in nursing school. Now I have lost ~25 pounds due to the stress of handling our new computerized documentation system that was supposed to cut back on the paper at our hospital...

I hope you are right..... I am starting to look like a penguin 16_5_14.gif from the front and the back and I am only taking pre-req's......go figure.....literally :rotfl:

Yes! I definately gained last semester. This semester I am losing but because I had gastric bypass over the break. I had been researching it for a very long time. I'm doing really well in healing just very tired! But it is difficult to find foods to eat on the go with school and work. Also, I can't eat fast so that makes it even more interesting!

Good luck on your surgery and weight loss.

I suggested in a different post an idea that may appeal to you all.

How about we ask Brian to start a thread for nurses/nursing students/ pre nursing who want support while beginning the long awaited start to their personal exercise regime or weight loss plan? Here we can all start together...we can offer up support to each other and a place to vent because I'm sure there will be alot of that!

We won't obviously all be on the same regime..just starting at the same time.

All you computer nerds..step up! All you nursing students who've gained pounds during their semester but haven't quite started to lose it....step up. All you who say they haven't time...maybe we can help you find it.

What do you think? I have one taker already but I think we need more.

I start the gym routine next week to lose 25 pounds. I know I'd like support. And it's all about health and the health of the nursing world.

I'm in!

Sounds like a good idea to me, too ! I've really overindulged during the holidays, so I'm just going to start by trying to cut back now that school is beginning again! :)

I gained 20 lbs in nursing school mainly in my first semester. I lost my relationship because of it. NO matter what you are doing, don't let school ruin your other priorities either. My best advice: GET A Partner for Exercise!! I lost 35 lbs that way. Me and my classmate would wake up really early, around 5 or 6 am and workout before classes. Doing it with her made the sacrifice easier. I couldn't have done it without her. If i didn't want to wake up and get my butt moving, she would do so for me. It's all about accountability to the other, and it worked wonders for me. As far as my relationship....he saw me again after i had lost the weight and couldn't believe his eyes! He feels real sorry he broke up with me! I also recommend Weight Watchers, not too pricy and effective. Im an RN now and I am now struggling with gaining weight at work . UMMMM , all those cookies at work keep calling my name. I think it will be a new obstacle. Lots of luck to you on the NCLEX.
