I know that we have enough stress in nursing school without bringing our weight into the picture but I put on 10 pounds this past semester! I was wondering if anyone else had trouble keeping weigt off in nursing school........I think I ate more due to stress and late night studying....I didnt exercise as much and I just.....felt my clothes getting tighter. I would like to lose these 10 pounds so my clothes can fit me again and also avoid gaining weight this next semester......grrr! Does anyone have any advice or has this happened to you.....my main goal in nursing school is to pass my classes but I also would like to maintain my health and not put on weight. Help!!
I am a junior nursing student and have already gained a lot of weight even after only one semester! i spent so much time studying and grabbing the potato chips, and often was too tired to go to the gym! Its my new years resolution that I get back in shape, because although my grades are my first priority, I don't want to be unhealthy either. Any suggestions on some good healthy snack foods to eat while studying, or any other helpful tips? I'd appreciate anything! Jenni
Exercise in the AM!!! (before class) it is the best time because your body is not as exhausted in the morning as in the afternoon. You are more likely to stick to doing it if you make it the first thing in your day!
Healthy snacks: popcorn (low fat), apples and a dab of peanut butter, yogurt with any kind of fruit you like (bananas are great for a sweet tooth), half of a turkey sandwich instead of the whole sandwich is a good snack. Peanuts (not too much of them) will keep you satisfied. THe kEY thing: Protein and FIBER keep you satisfied the longest.
Have you noticed when you eat carbs (sweet breads, cornflakes, ect....) you are hungry in an hour or less?? Stick to whole grains. If you like oatmeal it is a fast and easy way to have breakfast . You can buy the instant kind and it will leave you full for most of the morning.
How about the freshman 15, sophomore 15, junior 15 and senior 15. For my body's sake, I wish nursing school was only one semester!Haven't you ever heard of the "freshman 15"? This is a known phenomenon for students in their first year of college, and I guess it matters not what age you are when you are making this transition to the student role....many folks gain weight.
Switch to a vegan diet, it helps lose weight. It makes you healthier too. Studies have shown that meat is bad for the heart. You'll likely have more energy too. If you want more information, go to: www.goveg.com They give free starter kits!
These ladies were heavy diet soda drinkers. I am using splenda. They may find something later about it, too, but for now I am using it. I really, really need to just switch to more H2O!
Have you had any splenda side-effects? I have heard that artificial sweeteners sometimes react badly with people?
I am trying to slim down too. I have decided to just lower the portions that I eat and to exercies more regularly. I have found that exercising in the morning and stretching at night really helps me out through the day. I have not lost much weight yet but it makes me feel better and thats good enough for now. Right? :)

Same here....more exercise slightly smaller portions. The exercise has been making me feel much better and that I care about more than the weight.

I am in the last year of school..when I started i weighed 145...now 172....who has time to exercise? I have 3 kids under 6...a horse farm and my hubby comes home every other weekd-end. I know that employers don't really look ate GPA's, but I am proud of my 3.4. I figure after I graduate(and pass boards) I can seriously diet.

I'm in the same boat. I gained 10 lbs 1st smemster, lost it all over the summer, then gained it back 2nd semester. I was already unhappy with my weight and now I'm even more unhappy. So I'm trying to get in my Tae Bo more regularly and I'm trying to eat better. It's not easy though, especially when you're starving after class and want to stop at the first fast food place you see!
